Default ITR muffler with custom piping?

i am looking to upgrade my exhaust but i dont think i am going to upgrade it with an aftermarket exhaust seeing asthough i like my car quiet. i am gonna try to get my hands on an ITR axle back. i would get an ITR b-pipe but i dont want to deal with extending it and what not so that it will fit my GSR (99). i heard a lot of people say ITR axle back with custom 2.25" piping is the way to go but how does the custom piping work? does it replace the stock b-pipe and bolt straight up to the stock cat???

You will have to get an experienced muffler shop that can mandrel bend the piping, if not you will end up with a bunch of kinks and resulting in restricted exhaust flow. Personally, I would go for the JDM ITR and get it stretched or whatever to make it fit. If you do end up with a custom B-pipe make sure the shop puts a resonater on, or else it will still be loud. Screw it, just go with an RS*R catback, they are quiet.

I have an ITR muffler with custom pipe. everything was like $230. Beats paying over $500 for an aftermarket exhaust. Mine bolts to the cat and muffler. I do not like welding.
Mandrel bent will not make any diference.

would just buying the ITR axle back and bolting it on to my stock b-pipe do anything for me as in better flow, slight performance gain?

yes it would. Thats what i would do if you arent going to do anything serious. Exhaust is mianly for sound... the performance gains are minimal. The 500$ you spend on exhaust could be used wisely elsewhere.

mandrel bent piping doesnt do crap.

if you think that way then why do itr's and ctr's come with mandrel bent piping from the factory? do you think its there for looks? go shove a b pipe from an si or a gsr and then take it for a spin, you will feel a difference of how restrictive a non-mandrel bent piping is

An exhaust won't make hp, it will just free up some hp you should've been making but weren't due to a crappy exhaust. So an exhaust isn't mainly for sound. It is a necessity at one point when you've actually got some big cams in.

If it is not mandrel bent then your 2 1/2" piping will have kinks in it and will go down to more like 2" or less. It does make a difference.

The ITR axle-back is only 2". It even reduces to 1-5/8" at the can (I believe). I was the SMSP ITR cat-back, so I know all the kinks in the OE system. The stock ITR set-up (cat-back)is a great system for mild mods. If cams or compression are in your future, I would spend the money for a full custom 2.5" system. SMSP offers a mandrel bent kit that can be welded together by a local shop. Shoot him an email and inquire.
