Default Tur-bo or not Tur-bo?

Ok. here's the deal. As most of you already know, I have a LS, and am considering slapping a turbo to that baby... Questions. I hear that as a daily driver, it's not such a good thing. Second, would doing a Vtec head swap be a good idea? I'm wanting power, and I want it to be reliable... Any suggestions? -ekzrated

if its installed and tuned right, it can be reliable.

if you run low boost and have it tuned nicely it will run very reliable. ur lookin at a looooot of $$$$ to do a ls/vtec turbo. just so many things to do. but if ur wallet is deep enough id say go for it. that thing would be a torque monster.

First of all, whoever said its bad to daily drive a turbo car is wrong, Secondly, if you slapped on a vtec head it would allow you to use a bigger turbo, due to the fact they hit full boost at higher rpms and Third, its all about tuning

i wouldn't recommend lsvtec setup for a daily driver, turbo setup would be more reliable, you still got your motor in tact, whereas lsvtec is a custom motor all together and can have many things go wrong IF not done correctly.

Thanks for the feedback. So, I could easily run 8lbs of boost with stock LS block I take it? I should change the interiors of the engine then, right? any suggestions for this engine? and is getting headers, intake manifold, etc a waste?-ekzrated

if u have the money build up the internals. then u can run more boost if u wanted. but 8 psi sounds about right for stock ls internals. if your going to turbo soon dont waste ur money on headers cause ur gonna be selling them neways. save up for a good turbo exhaust.

Please do a search on this. Go ahead with 8psi and have it properly tuned, it will make a fun, fast, and reliable daily driver. If you plan on going over 10psi then change out the internals. Look for a set or forged 9.0:1 comp pistons, a set of good rods and sleeving (if you have the extra $$).

It is a header, not plural just one. You don't use a header with a turbo, it is an exhaust manifold. A good tubular manifold does help make power and spool faster. An intake manifold will show good gains with higher boost, but if you are only going to use 8psi then save your $ for a good stout lower end. That is just my $.02.
