Replacing halfshafts on a 1997 Accord.
I looked up under the car recently and found the halfshafts, but I have a question for those who have done this job before. I see where the halfshafts connect to the tranny and the wheel, but on the wheel, I don't see what you take off to release or loosen the halfshaft from where it connects to the wheel. I have a Chilton's manual and it says this nut, or that wingnut, but as a beginning DIY'er, there are no pictures. I'm not going to buy another manual, because I thought that someone may have a resource online in the form of a link to share, or maybe can break it down for me. Thanks for any help.
That is a great! Just what I was looking for!
Now from the manual once you get that off and I think the braket that bolts to the frame, the side that fits in the tranny just comes out, or is it threaded in there?
Also, once I complete this job, how long could I drive on it without an alignment? I think I may have to wait as long as a week.

thanks man. BTW, while I'm down there I'm going to drain and refill the tranny with fluid. Since it's a manual it calls for Honda MTF Fluid, but chilton's doesn't say what else is used as an alternative. I'm thinking some type of motor oil, but I'm not sure. Thanks for any additional help. you've all been great.

Just another question on this. When I do this job, where is the optimal place on the frame to put the jackstands to hold the car up? I'm just not sure and I don't want the thing falling on me, or damaging part of my car.
what is a halfshaft? if it breaks what are the side effects?
When I changed my rear brakes I tried to put the jack under the frame but, it bent it a little bit so i just put it on the lip on the side of the car. not safe but i couldn't find another way to do it.

You won't be able to drive it because you have no steering...
Thanks for the suggestion on jacking up the car. I had thought about that...
