thinking of getting a Prelude - advice??
Hello,
Right now I have a 92 Jetta - Its a fun little car, but I think its probably nearing the end of its life.
It seems like something is always wrong with it, so I might head back to the honda camp. In the past I have owned an 83' accord, an 87' civic and a 89' civic. All pretty good cars.
I just need to know the basics of what I should look for in a Prelude, what the model differences are, when the engines changed, etc...
Thanks - Josh

lol, tip - if you don't have any money, get an s or an si, and swap a vtec or turbo it later. thats what im doing, it makes sense if you're still going to school, etc.

The SI is the best if money is an issue? They can be pretty quick with basic mods. http://www.hondaprelude.com/setups/s...ply.asp?id=362
i suggest a nice 93-96 prelude VTEC. 190hp 158lbs torque.
the fastest prelude available in the US.
if your budget is limited and you can't afford it, get an Si. those are pretty nice too.

There are several different questions that you could address that might help narrow down your decision.
- How much do you want to spend?
- What generation do you like the look of best?
- Do you plan to do any modifications and if so what might they be, or how drastic are you planning to mod?
- what features, such as leather interior, atts, etc do you demand?
for example, if you want to go cheap and do some mild mods later, a 4th gen Si might be the ticket. Or if you want to turbo, then that would be a good choice too since the VTEC engines aren't as easy to turbo. Or if you like the look of the 5th gen then that might be for you, etc...

I'd probably get a fourth or fifth gen prelude. I am looking to spend somewhere between 10-15. I doubt I will doing a ton of mods, nothing like a turbo or anything. I would probably go for the vtec right away if possible. Any mods i would think about doing would probably be limited to suspension, intake, basic stuff. I am in no need of luxury, as long as the seats are comfortable and supportive, i would be happy.
Thanks for the help everyone.

the base and SH have the same hp...if you get the automatic, then its 195...and speed difference betweeen 4th gen vtec and 5th gen is very small...
I say 5G. The 4G's are almost 7 years old so good luck finding one with low miles. Your 10-15 budget would definitely include a 5G and your chances of finding one are significantly higher thus more to choose from
And yeah don't waste $$ on SH b/c ATTS is just a 80+lb. chunk of practically unused metal that looked like a good idea on paper. And of course I'm bias look at my sig
