Default Fuel Tank: How do I clean it out when I install walboro fuel pump?

I'm going to have to drop the tank on my DA to install a new fuel pump sometime. The car has ~240k on it, so I'm sure there's quite a bit of dirt/deposits at the bottom of my tank. My question is, what should I use to clean out the tank?

Really? I always thought that there'd be some sort of sediment at the bottom of the tank.

Theres got to be some kinda dirt somewhere cuz somethings gotta clog fuel filters!!

I have never seen the bottom of my fuel tank, but i have seen a few mercedes tanks and they werent too bad but they had low mileage.

What is the purpose of the fuel sock then?

What about the fuel filter?

The fuel sock is to keep the pump from sucking in sediment;
the fuel filter is to catch anything that the sock may have missed
and keep it out of the injectors..

Mosy likely any dirt/sand you get comes from the storage tank
that the fuel comes out of..

PS> after you drain out most of the gas
you can usually catch most of the trash with a paper towel..

one way to help keep sediment out of your tank is to not fill up when you see the tanker pumping into the gas tanks at the station... when they fill the tanks it mixes all the sediment in their tanks up. so you just go to another station if you need gas that bad or just wait a day because with time the crap will settle in their tanks.

Good advice.. Also if the pump runs really slow or you see an
"Environmental Services" truck on the parking lot near the tanks,
that usually means there is a problem with water contamination..
