im sure it could be done with very extensive machining but
if it was easy, why would anyone swap in h22s?

SEARCH feature is your friend...

https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=1

Read that thread. ALL of it... and most of your questions should be answered. There are reasons for doing it, and reasons for not doing it... all explained in that thread.

Oh, and so you know, it's not a simple bolt in and go...

with the time and money it would take to make that work well, might as well get an h22 and built that up nicely. just my opinion tho

It's been done (read the thread above) but like they said... Hardly worth the time, money, or the headache

i heard it's kinda a substitute as LS vtec- f22 with h22 head, but i rather swap the whole motor. don't take my word for it though, there are 10000 pros here that know more than me

Why does everyone throw in "IMO its not worth the money" or "its too expensive"? He did it because it was cheaper than getting a H22. How can you say that when he obviously said it and did it?

If you plan on going 8k witht he engine then I would not recommend you do it. This engine was only constructed to boost.

ok I’m considering this build, I have a f22b2, I’m assuming ill need a p13 ECU and a OBD2-OBD1 harness. Question is will I need to run new wires for vetch? I have a 1997 Acura CL and the engine is single cam non-vtech, so I’m assuming there’s no wires for vetch as is?

EDIT:

ok what engine do i have Wikpedia says the acura CL uses the f22b2 and this honda site says f22b1

FYI, This thread is pretty much 5 years old........lol

There are numerous threads and DIY's posted in the Accord FAQ that cover adding VTEC to a Non VTEC vehicle. If you have a Non VTEC then you will require the addition of the VTEC wires. If you plan on running an H22A intake manifold with the IAB's you will also require adding the wiring for that as well.

As for whether or not your car has VTEC or Not, look under the hood. The flat milled area down on the block between the center mount and transmission will have the engine code stamped on it.

Here is an example. This shows my F22B2 block code,

F22B1 is VTEC F22B2 is non VTEC.

Or you could look at the valve cover. They will usually have VTEC on them if they are a VTEC engine.

Oh yeah, I forgot that some CL do have 2.2L. So the 2.2L are VTEC or no? cause I thought all CL are SOHC VTEC.

The op has an F22B1 head not an F22A head. Are you suggesting that he swap a non VTEC F22A head into his already VTEC chassis?

a f22 head flows better then a h22? this doesn’t make sense. I was under the impression the g22 (h22 head and f22bottom end) was a great choice for boost. this way I can boost more on stock internals until I feel like building a bottom end, otherwise I would just go h22a1 full engine and have to sleeve it.

Guys, the thread is 4, almost 5 years old. There is no point in asking "how it turned out" or anything like that to the original poster who was last active :
  • Last Activity: 12-31-1969 07:00 PM
Which means since before the vB changeover.

My personal opinion on the swap is if you're going to that much trouble to put the H22 head on there why not just put the whole damn motor or keep the F stock and boost that. It's not the best documented half-swap out there. Keeping things simple makes more sense.

Ive been wondering the same thing. Ive heard of this being done with the f23 block but haven't gotten good answers for the f22 block. The h22 head is a little wider than the f series blocks though.
