Default Some body shops just don't know....

it's a long one.

i was cruising along on my way back to work on lunch break, the day before thanksgiving, and some kid named paul who wasn't looking decided to change lanes, and ended with my front passenger-side corner ripping his bumper off... the week before last, i get it back, and in my excitement, don't look over the car as well as i should have... two days later, i notice the hood is too far over to the right.... take it back, the monkey moves it over, all the while giving me for complaining about it, and i'm on my way, once again not looking close enough... until the next day, when i notice the hood now lines up along the fender lines, but there's a 2 millimeter gap between the front bumper and the driver's side of the hood... i take it back, the guy is furious, and tells me "the only reason Acura has hoods as spare parts is that they get rejected on the assembly line, and instead of scrapping them, Acura sells them as spare parts." he then told me he "only has Acura's fender holes to make sure everything is square, and if something is off just a little on one side, the difference will be huge on the other side." i was like "Yeah. That's why you take it to a body shop." duh. what a f*ckin moron. he has to keep the car overnight, and the next day, it looks good, except he scuffed the hell out of the fresh paint fitting it. wonderful. last night, it's snowing, i'm on the highway, my windshield is full of dirt and road , and my f*ckin windshield wiper fluid isn't hooked up! i'm gonna rip this guy a new *******!

CLIFFS: body shop takes 7 weeks to do two weeks worth of work, does it half-assed, then gets pissed when made to correct it. and it still isn't right.

QUOTES: dumba$$: "the only reason Acura has hoods as spare parts is that they get rejected on the assembly line, and instead of scrapping them, Acura sells them as spare parts."

dumba$$: "I only have Acura's fender holes to make sure everything is square, and if something is off just a little on one side, the difference will be huge on the other side."

me: "Yeah. That's why you take it to a body shop."

needless to say, if you live on the south side of chicago, do NOT take your vehicle to:
Ed's Auto Rebuilders
4530 137th St. Crestwood, IL. 60445
(708) 388-4124

i'd feel safer bending the frame back with a sledge hammer than letting this guy touch my car again. (aside from hooking up the wiper fluid.) geesh... that was long...

peace.

neil

Did they repair the bumper cover in-house?
Did you get a whole new bumper?
Or did they send it off to get it repired at another facility?

Was any re-painting involved? How did that turn out?

I have to get some body work/painting done soon. I ran into one of those white 4' high plastic reflectors on the side of the highway. It whipped over my hood, scraped up the bumper/hood, and put a dent in the middle of my hood. I've found a good place to take it to though (I hope). Unfortunately, Bondo is the repair method of choice for the hood.
New ones are like $115 + Shipping.

Has anyone had Bondo work done before? how's it turn out?

They are professionals, (supposedly) and they are expected to deliver a service that satisfies their customers.

Keep 'em honest,
Karl

That is a sharp picture of your front-end.

I've never been a fan of Carbon Fiber on light colors, like my silver Teg. But on the Black Tegs it looks very classy.

no, they didn't repair the bumper cover, it was ripped apart... so, new bumper, right fender, and hood. the hood was $408 something from acura... i wanted a CF hood but i'm glad i didn't get one cuz this guy would've used that as the reason why the hood didn't line up at first.

the paint looks great, now that everything is fixed it looks awesome...
oh yeah.. the guy hooked the wiper spray motor up to the back windows instead of the front.

don't go to Ed.
