help !! whats the easiest way to install crankpulley
when i got my b18b it didn't have a crankpulley on it so i finally picked one up today and figured it was time to install my belts and all that. so i tried and tried and couldn't get the flywheel off. i dont have an impact so i was just pulling with all my might on my torque wrench to get the sucker off and it didn't happen. i had a wrench wedge'd against the flywheel so it wouldn't budge and yea i didn't get anything done tonite so i'm super frustrated now. anybody know an easier way to do this without the use of air tools since i dont have any ?? any help will do now
Try using a big ratchet and a really long pipe as a breaker bar, thats how I got mine off
I used a 2.5 foot metal pipe on the end of my ratchet n broke the bolt loose pretty easily.

He would need an air compressor, too, which are quite pricey if you get one that's big enough to drive a 1/2" impact wrench.
So are you trying to work on the crank pulley, or the flywheel (opposite ends of the motor)?

i was kinda wondering that myself. as far as im concerned the best way to get the harmonic balancer bolt off (crank pulley bolt) would be to keep the timing belt on and have someone hold the camshafts with a couple of crecent wrenches while the other person works the bolt off.

first things first, go buy a breaker bar instead of abusing a torque wrench like that. that's not how they are designed to be used. you can easily **** up its calibration.

im tryin to get the crankpulley bolt off and i have to somehow get the flywheel to stop moving .. thats the main problem. i'm probably gonna have to get some impacts cause i'll need them to install the motor anyways so screw it. birthday is commin up next month anyways so the project will have to be put on hold
I have a very simple solution. Take it to your nearest shop that uses an impact wrench and have them break the nut loose , then retighten to 100lbs or so and baby it home. Once the initial loosening, its a breeze. good luck

yea i would do that but i already have everything on the motor besides the tranny. so that makes it quite heavy to just pick up and take to a shop. and i just went through doing a complete motor rebuild so its not in a car currently i have my eyes set on a hatch in the next few months

You have to get a crank pully holder in order to hold the pulley while you try to undo the bolt.

Look at this picture. The hex end fits inside of the pulley, but still allows you to get a wrench or air gun inside of the pulley to remove the nut.
The link above is the expensive way to go. I got mine off amazon, but it is just the hex tool, so you will still need a breaker bar.
As far as i know this is really the only way to hold the pulley (hence holding the crank) and remove the bolt.

this is kinda hard to explain, but you can thread two bolts in the upper left hand of the motor on the tranny side and stick a screwdriver between them into the flywheel to stop it from moving...if that makes any sense...
An impact gun still might not do the trick. If the crank bolt is really stuck on there the crank will still want to spin.
The tool i described above might be your only option to holding the crank pully still whille getting the 19mm bolt off. On amazon they are $24.95
If you want will take some photos today of the tool and my crank pulley.
