Default press ruin wheel bearings?

I am pressing hubs and bearings from one set of knuckles into another, he told me that when they press them out it will ruin the bearing.. is there a way to save them? what he explained to me sounds right but the $ is $75 a bearing

don't know.. but i had my front wheel bearing removed from my old knuckle and pressed into the new one i got... i haven't noticed any of the typical "bearing gone bad" sound while driving nor the side to side movement of the wheel.
