Default Running slicks with no lsd??

I plan on taking my car to the track this season and running it on slicks for the first time. Is a lsd really necessary? I've heard of people breaking their trannies and also heard of people being ok without one. Does power matter? Any tips/suggestions would be appreciated.

Dc2 Turbo teg.

What do people normally launch at? Lets say 13" lenso's with 22-23" slicks?

Thanks

Thanks for the replies.

Autozone axles? Hmm..what kinda hp numbers they capable of? I believe the stock gsr axles are made to handle 200-250whp am I correct? Maybe on your all motor application the axles hold up. How about wheel hopping? Which can cause damage to the tranny? Any problems with wheel hopping?

I plan on pushing 400whp.

I'm running autozone axles myself. A broken axle might be a pain in the ***, but when they have a lifetime warrenty it sure beats blowing ur tranny! Thats the only reason i'm still running the autozone axles.

IMO it depends on the power level and the driving style. The "Dump Method" tends to break components.

personally i think a stock tranny is good for any 10 sec cars.Bunch of people I know run stock trannies on what ever they have, thats all i have ever run, I have never had a 10 sec car but why build a tranny for anything less fast.If you run a slick that has a big side wall that wrinkles and preload it at the line, that eliminates stress on the drive train.Slip the clutch alittle out of the hole, the tranny will hold fine. Its all if you know how to launch or not.Trannies and axels break when u just pop the clutch on the revlimiter or some sudden jurk when taking of.

ive been turboed for about 3 years now and i go to the track pretty often. ive been on the same stock gsr tranny and axles. and its held up fine.

i began with 275whp 190tq, and with 22"slicks on 15's it held up fine for about 2 years worth of racing.

for about 7 months now im at 425whp and 275tq ive been racing with the same slicks setup launchng at 7000 and its still holding up fine.

yeh i know im over powering my 22's but 24.5 are coming soon.

buy two sets of warranty axles and bring 'em with you to the track. this wont help you with your tranny worries, but you can brake a couple axles and still be good to go.
