Daily Driving: Brake Change
I have a 95 integra Ls. I believe its time to change my brakes and rotors.
This car is my daily driver and I hardly race my car.
I was wondering what should i buy
1) Brembo blanks from (groubuycenter.com) with oem brake pads(from friend)
or hawks pads. (Would the hawks be unecessary for my kind of driving?
2) Autozone rotors and pads.

autozone rotors with pads. If you don't race or anything, those cheap albany/duralast brakes works good. If you drive a little quick, you might want to try duralast/gold brake pads. Cant beat lifetime warranty.

AutoZone pads and rotors are just fine for daily driving. The rotors are basically the exact same thing as Brembo blanks (just stock OE replacement). They're really cheap, too, front rotors are about $24 each and rear rotors are only $17 each.

I did an autox session on my current AutoZone rotors and pads back in November, and I'm still on the same stuff.

the thing is, with the cheap ones, there's only a 2 month warranty. so if you want to race and abuse them and return them, that's all the time you have. but if you spend 10 more for the duralast, you have 1 or 2 years, im not sure. i really don't take working at autozone that seriously.

So then he should go for the AutoZone rotors and pads? or is there any other "decent" rotors and pads that can handle a lil bit of abuse. . . I say a lil bit cuhz who doesnt drive a lil hectic every now and then *rotors and pads that can take a lil abuse with a lil bit more money*

autozone has their new duralast gold brake pads which are pretty good. Quiet and not much brake dust and LLT. The problem is, they don't have it for a lot of different models of cars yet.
I'd go with the PFC if i were you, even though its only 2 yr warranty. They are very good, bites good, but downside, they have quite a bit of brake dust that turns yr rims orange if you don't wash them. Regarding the $16.99 brake pads, they are albany brake pads, decent and will do their job. They are a lil noisy, and will squeak slightly in rush hr traffic, but if that doesn't matter to you, you might want to look into that. That's what i put in my car, and it works fine.
For the rears, just get the cheap ones with LLT warranty. Rears don't make that much of a diff anyways.
BTW, i have an extra set of PFC brake pads for integras. I traded in my worn civic brake pads for a brand new set of integra brake pads under warranty (slight lil scam.. but o well), but obviously since integra and civic brake pads aren't interchangeable, so i just have them lying around.
I'll sell it to u for $30 shipped if you want.
. Saves you bout $15. and they will definately last u over 2 yrs regardless unless you track it. My last PFC ones lasted me almost 4 yrs.

only difference between the duralast and duralast gold (i think) is that the gold come with the metal shims for less squeak.

albany and duralast are pretty much same thing. getting the little 99c pack of lube will keep them from squeaking, too.

I recently did a brake overhaul on my 94 LS (much needed)... even pulled apart the pins from the calipers and everything and greased them down... I dont track my car, but I like enthusiastic driving, and the piece of mind of knowing i have more stopping power than necessary... one time when you can never have to much (IMO)
I went with Hawk HPS pads all the way around, with Brembo blank rotors... Additionally I picked up a set of Goodridge stainless steel braided lines. I know alot of people say that they're not good blah, but my rear lines looked kinda rough, and they were on clearance new for $75 at a local shop.
I used Valvoline SynPower brake fluid, it was $4 a bottle at the local auto parts store, and the best I could find locally.
I must say that my car has excellent brake feel and stops almost instantaneous (well... compared to my old stock worn out junk anyway). The only thing I wish I had done different was to either find rotors that were coated on the end (the part that touches the wheel), or paint over that part before I installed them. Starting to get that surface rust... hrmfph...

there is always the powerslot rotors, i like them.

with the duralast/albany brakes, you'll get slight squeaks when moving like 3 mph and slow down everynow n then even with the anti squeal. The squeak isnt coming from the back of the pads, but from the pad material and rotors. They are semi-metallic which are prone to squeaks every now n then.
Regarding duralast gold and normal duralast pads, they are a total different mix in pad materials. Yes, tehy do have shims built into them, but they are also slightly better too other than the shims. It is designed with less brake dust.

get the duralast gold pads, there exactly like stock and have a lifetime warrenty, the regular duralast are a composite of about 12 different stock pads so they can be put on more then one car where as the gold is an exact OEM replacement, get the duralast rotors too, they have a 2 year warrenty
oh yeah, if you get the brake lube you will have no brake squeal, trust me i know from experience (i work there), and make sure you clean the rotors with brake cleaner to get the packaging goo off the surface
