I currently have an LS with bolt-ons but im looking for more power with reliability for my everyday driver ... i finished my integ inside and out ... just need a new engine .... rather not spend 5k for a type r ... what you guys think about a gsr swap .. better yet a jdm GSR swap with lsd tranny ...
to help you .. i want to go NA with the new motor ... and stay reliable
what do you guys think .. those of you with experiance let me know .. i have a shop that will do all the work

i think u should go with a gs-r and with the extra money left over u can buy up greads hell i beat a stock itr with my gs-r with header intake and a muffler
or just go with a ls vtec their great they have a longer strok than a gs-r

i want to stay away from ls-v .. ive been so close to doing it but my engine has 100k on it and i dont feel like redoing my whole bottom end end stuff for a frankinstien ... i want reliability so i can "beat on it" once and a while and not be worried ...
jdm gsr or usdm gsr?? ... can you even get a legit usdm gsr engine .. that way it will pass smog cuz the jdm one wont .... ??

I'll put it this way...a JDM GSR motor has the same compression ration as a USDM type-r...so if you're thinking about getting a USDM type-r motor...i would just save myself the extra $1000 and get a JDM GSR and build it....after building the B18c....honestly it makes no difference whether you have a GSR or a type-r...its the same ****...if you dont plan on building the motor and just want to run a stock motor...i would buy the JDM type-r motor. Thiss is just my 2 cents.

That is what I would do also.
Use the money you save and buy some bolt ons or a set of cams.
Just make sure your setup will pass smog, I don't know the rules in Cali, but in NY a JDM GS-R in a 96+ teg prolly wouldn't pass.

good choice.

I'd personally go wit the JDM GSR swap, I did. I mean, USDM ITR = 195 hp but cost roughly 'round 5 grand; JDM GSR = 180 hp but cost roughy around 3100 (3500 shipped + plus an extra 300 for LSD). So with the extra 1200-1500 you can go with cams, exhaust, headers, intake, etc., which ever setup pleases you the most. It's only 15 horses differences, which could decide a race, but with the combination of headers, exhaust etc, there really isn't much of a difference...only decider is which of the two cars is the better driver...

Comes with everything you need, harness, sesnors, distributor, ecu etc., and optional LSD 'bout 3900 shipped.

if u have a usdm in ur teg then im pretty sure u'll pass smog, unless it has been poorly maintained. if u have a jdm gsr, u basically got to turn the whole thing to usdm spec. search on this topic. whole bunch of stuff to read from. this is how i did my jdm.
