Use of toluen+gas
Is any one of you using gas with toluen!
I was told that if I have
100 octane gas I can add 20% of toulen
98 octane gas I can add 14% of toulen
95 octane gas I can add 7-9% of toulen
is this corectt??
Any experiences ?
We use a 20% mix on our Supra, which on a 14 gallon tank, yeilds approximately a 98 octane mix, so you can scale that down on your own.
Be aware that it does eat away any rubber surfaces that it comes in contact with. We had to replace our valve seats once, and may have to again soon.
I say its OK for the occasional weekend race when you want to bump your timing/boost up, but otherwise it is a little impractical due to the wear factor on rubber parts.

I am also not using it at the moment, but I have to increase my octane number, becouse my compresion ratio will be around 14:1, and I dont have anything else but toluen.....
any ideas?

toluene damages valve seals?
i've been using it for the past 3 years with no problems. according to http://www.elektro.com/~audi/audi/toluene.html and http://www.eco-usa.net/toxics/toluene.shtml , toluene is even used to make some rubber products and should have no side effect on fuel system hoses/etc at all.
i know toluene can attack some rubber products, but the rubber in the fuel hoses/valve seals? is it only after a certain % of use? personally, like i've said, i've had no problems with toluene. however, if it damages the supra's valve seals, are toyotas valve seals different material than hondas?

I'm wanting to know if the people that are using toulene are using it straight with the gas or if it's mixed with something else? When I've gone to local hardware stores and looked at paint thinners etc, I have yet to find straight toulene in a can on a shelf anywhere. I'll usually find it mixed with ethyl alcohol or sometimes even acetone etc. I'm wondering if the toulene is mixed with something like acetone and then added to gasoline to raise octane, if this could be the cause of corrosion problems for people?

i'm using toluene straight mixed with gas. for my 12 gallon tank, i use 3 gallons of toluene, and fill the rest with gasoline. that's about a 25% mix. personally, i've heard of people mixing toluene and xylene with gasoline, but my friends and i run it straight, only mixed with gasoline.
usually, at places like sherwin williams, you can find it on the shelf. otherwise, you have to ask. because toluene is used to make methamphetamines, places like sherwin williams makes you give your photo ID to them so they can write down your driver's license #, etc. you can get it in a 1/5/55 gallon portions from sherwin williams, but for the 55 gallon drum, you'll have to have a pickup or something because they only will give it to you out of the loading dock area.
chemical supply houses also carry toluene, but the ones in my neighborhood only sell it in 55 gallon drums, and out of the loading dock area.

I've used straight toluene mixed with 91 octane using the formula listed below.

The last time I bought it, it was about $12 a gallon at Sherwin Williams.
I mix enough to get 94 octane.

I just read your posts. Seems to be my experience with it as well.
