Here is my situation, what would you do?
As I stated on a previous post. I WANT to get rid of my damn cavalier. I owe $11,777 on it and I'm not sure if I could even sale it to get that. Here is what I'm debating on: There are 2 Prelude's in town for sale. A 1994 Red Prelude Si 5-speed with 84k miles on it and several dents and dings... There is also a black 2000 Prelude Base model with 95k miles and an auto transmission. Unlike what I stated in my previous post, I don't think I would really use the car for performance(I'd mod it, but no track runs for it.) I really just want to use it for a daily driver and maybe put some money into it here and there. I like both, but heard bad things about the auto Preludes. The place selling the 2000 model offers extended warranty that covers the powertrain, plus they would be able to finance and would also be able to possibly work something out with my current situation. As for the place with the 1994... the car has been sitting there for quite some time now and it is a personal dealership (family owned). They want $5290 for the 1994 and $11995 for the 2000. Someone told me that the place that is selling the 2000 will negotiate the prices of their cars by a good bit sometimes. What would you do in my situation? I don't have the money to buy the car without financing and I HAVE to get rid of the cavalier before getting either. Thanks in advance for any input.
How are you getting rid of the cavalier, why did you even get one? But maybe you should trade it in and get a car from whatever dealership you traded it in at. If you sell it you should have atleast 6g's?? And that would be a good downpayment for a bank or dealership. So if you get a loan from a bank you have more choices for purchases a vehicle.
I would not get either one. The 00 being automatic, heard the tranny sucks. The 94 doesnt seem to be in good condition.
Also some private sellers will let you pay monthly...???...

Stick with the cavalier until you can find a reasonably priced 5th Gen Manual.. preferably the base model, or a 4th gen h22 vtec manual.
Sounds like your in a sticky situation.

Finding any prelude for sale anywhere near where I live is very rare. There are maybe 2 people in town that have one. The 94 isn't in really bad condition, but it is 11 years old. And I won't be racing the car so I wasn't sure if the automatics were just crap if you treatedt them bad or if they were just bad all together. Can't be as bad as owning an RX-7... Have to rebuild the engines on those ever 40k miles...
I don't know where you heard that about RX-7's but I've seen many that are good. You have to rebuild them if you tear the **** out of it and don't know how to maintain it (at all) but otherwise an RX-7 will last you a long time.
I'd rather have an RX-7 Turbo than a Prelude any day of the week

I wouldn't buy an auto tranny 5th gen. The 4th Gen doesn't sound too bad, but as you said, it is 11 years old.
When I bought my 4th Gen (92), it was 11 years old too. It needed a lot of work. The engine and body were in good shape, but it needed a new exhaust, clutch, tires, water pump, timing belt, axles, brakes, and a few other things. Needless to say, I would've never bought it as my daily driver. Since it wasn't going to be my daily driver(now it is.lol), I slowly built it up.
The point I am trying to make is that just because the car costs so much, it doesn't mean you won't have any additional expenses.
I would wait for a 5spd 5th gen if the car you get is your daily driver. 4th Gen are good if you plan to rebuild them. They are good cars, just old.
