Default Semi-Gutted Cat?

I just installed my exhaust on my 99 V6 and I noticed that the secondary o2 sensor is in the middle of the cat. Does that mean that there are 2 catalysts? If so, is it possible to gut the second one (after o2) without the risk of throwing a code?

No, there is still only 1 cat. The second O2 sensor is really just there to make sure that the cat is working properly.

Yes, I'm sure there are not 2 catalytic converters. And I'm sure that iam7head is sure as well. There is only 1 cat...

i know theres only 1 catalytic converter. im asking if there are 2 catalysts in the catalytic convertor. im gonna go googling in hopes of finding a dissected 6th gen cord cat.

well, the 7th gen has "close-coupled catalysts"... ok. i think im probably gonna have to shine a light into my converter through the sensor bung to find out for sure. guess itll be something else i can do when i install my headers.
