Building Turbo mani out of exhaust pipe?
I can get a great deal on Ubends ranging from 1.5" to 3" so i was wondering how well do you guys think a mani made out of standard mild steel tubing would hold up? As of now i have my turbo so its completely supported by the block, so im not worried about it cracking from supporting the weight. Im more concerned with it cracking under the extreme heat that it will see. Im thinking FR style also.
Let me here your input on this.
Thanks

how is the turbo held up by the block? are you using a heims joint? mild steel can work but it depends on the welds, how thick the material is, how well the turbo is supported etc. hook us up with a pick of how the turbo is supported and the gauge of material you plan on using and ull get more replies. good luck
All i did was make a plate that bolts to the back side(inside) of the comp and exhaust housings. I dont have a camera so I cant get pics. The tubing is .051, a holset hx35 will be the turbo used. Its on my car now, but im buying another crx and doing a "12 seconds on a budget" build.
Now that ive been thinking about it, im probably going to spin the turbo 90* from the normal mounting postion and put it a little further away from the block so its where the rad would normally be on a crx. Im running a half rad. I Know ill have to make new support brackets but thats an easy task.
Ill have a design up tonight prolly, so u guys can critique.

If you supported the turbo enough that you can have it in the exact position it needs to be in without having the manifold on then 18-16 gage tubing wouldn't be a problem.
