Default Miles per gallon...doesn't seem right??

OK, so I filled up my tank on saturday, figured I'd see what kind of gas mileage I am getting. Well i get right on E and the trip says 301 miles. so I search the archives to see what size gas tank I have, and I found that it was an 11.9 gallon gas tank, so I do the math and come up with 25 miles per gallon. i was like...WTF?? Doesn't this seem off to anyone? This was in city driving conditions, but it should still be higher right?? Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

all 92-95 models have the same gas tank size(11.9 gallons) except for the the cx or vx which has a 10.0 gallon tank, but anyways...to answer your question it is a DX coupe. And it doesn't seem right to me, I thought I was getting around 33 miles per gallon.

In my 99 I've been struggling to get over 250/tank in city driving. I don't know what it is, but it blows dick. I'm going to replace the cap, rotor, and do a valve adjusment and see if that helps. I know how you feel, but I'd like to get 301.

Wow, something is seriously up with your cars.

Just remember, fill the tank, drive it, mark down your mileage and fill it agian. If you even drive it low enough to get the gas light to come on you probally have another 2 gallons in the tank. They don't call them "idiot lights" for nothing.

I get between 40-42 mpg in my boosted y7 in the summer time and between 34-38 in the winter (due to the time in closed loop because of the cold starts).

I don't have a gas light or "idiot light" as you call it...i wish i got 40-42 mpg.

you divide the milage with the amount of gas you FILL UP with not your capacity. you NEVER use the entire capacity of your tank when you drive (unless you run out of gas).

the best way to measure milage: fillup, reset your trip odometer. drive as usual. return to the SAME pump and fill up. now divide your trip odometer reading by the # of gallons you fill up with. i average 22mpg with city driving on my b18b hatch, 30+ highway driving. i have a CX and i usually fill up around 9 gallons. the max capacity is 10.0 gallons.

Exactly, I was about to say the same thing. I've never really filled up past 10.5 gal, and that's with driving with the light on for a few days.

Yup, I measured this way and found I was getting anywhere between 30 to 37, depending on how I drive. Although, I'm sure I can get some better numbers if I tried.

Last tank of gas:

253 miles on trip odometer
10.4 gallons

24.3269230769 mpg

I always reset the trip odometer when I fill up, that way I know what kind of gas mileage I'm getting.

Interstate driving helps gas mileage, not hurt.

Yeah, but it still blows compared to the single slammers with the 2nd gears that go to 90!

this is how you do the math bro. go to the gas station and fill it up. read the "9.447" gallon and then you divided it by the miles driven. it should come out right. i only pump under 10 gal for my 1991 Si and i get 270 to a tank.

i can reach 80 in 3rd with my dx tranny, but 4th gear I shift before I even get to 5k rpm.

You've obviously never driven a GSR then. My bro's 92 GSR sits at about 4200rpm going 70mph on the highway, as opposed to my d16y8 tranny which sits at........3k.

My 98 y8 gets about 38-40 in warm weather, and now in the winter due to idling to warm up and just shitty driving in general Im only getting about 30-32mpg.
