chances are the clutch is it's a 5spd....
or if its an automatic... check your fluid levels.... if there is none, add some, and wait for it to actually blow from using it with no fluid. If there is fluid.... think the worst.

if it was his clutch the spedo would not change, the speed sensor is on the final drive portion of the transmission well after the clutch.

Yes. You can get them for under 100 dollars after your core return (at Autozone they even have a lifetime warranty on axles that are somewhere around 70-80 dollars) and you can replace it in under an hour.

i still dont know whats wrong.. i dont think its the axle.. cause when it was being pushed, itwas a smooth ride, but otherwise i guess it could be the clutch.. b4 i had all these problems i was teachin my friend how to drive stick, and showed him how the car is when it stalls, and my car didnt stall out.. in first gear.. it juss stayed in first like it was an automatic.. i could juss press the gas.. is my clutch burned out? or what..
Are you positive its not the axles? It only takes all of a few minutes to put the car on a jack, stick your head under real quick and check the axles and see if the boots are torn. Did you notice any funny noises before your car magically stopped driving? How has it been driving previously? Clutch slip issues? Any clicking noises when turning?
None of us are there to look at your car, you are our eyes and ears, if you dont tell us the info we need to know, we cant help you.

if you could put it in first and it didnt stall i would say clutch but the speedo shouldnt be going up with rpm, if your 1100000% sure its not the axle then you could have doin something to the trans like messed up the diff cause then it would still send a signal to the sensor, were you doin somethin stupid b4 this happened?

it's not a clutch.
I had this happen to me on two cars. Axle just slipped out of the diff. Both of them were on d series and both of the times it was the right axle. When that happens you engine will rev freely, speedometer will go up like crazy, and it will sometimes grind.
It could also be a broken axle, but then I believe it would clunk like a bitch all the time. Just pull them out and inspect them, then stick them back in. If one of them doesn't wonna go in all the way, you might have to take a file and file down the joint so it would be perfect.
Oh yeah for the newbies do you guys actually think before you say something. Clutch is before transmission, VSS (vehicle speed sensor) is on the diff.

your all wrong.... if you can get it into gear and it revs...you blew your tranny...i blew mine at the race track and destoryed my LSD at the same time...you better have an extra Tranny most likely you blew the sync. and you should beable to rebuild it to a higher performace. also since your at it you should get a new Clutch and and a lighten fly wheel...
Good Luck!

I'm sorry but your are an idiot goodbye. He gets speedometer reading, so diff is turning.
Second of all WTF does it have to do with synchros? diff is understandable if you speed isn't working.

ive had this happen.
also if its the drive axle you should be able to put the car into gear without using the clutch
and chances are you broke the snap ring that holds it onto the outer cv joint
so here is another for an axle

hate to be the bearer of bad news but an axle can cause the same problem. i had the EXACT SAME ISSUE after i first did my b16 swap many years ago.
