Default Car shakes while accelerating? Help? ...and maybe a referral to a good mechanic?

Hi - new guy here...

I'm having a problem with my '90 Accord that my (lousy) mechanic can't seem to identify. In fact, it's probably not even specific to Hondas.

Because I don't know how to say it in a more technical way... the car shakes/shutters under hard acceleration. To the point where I can see the hood shaking and hear the glove box. I'm not winding it out and I never shift over 4k. The car is bone stock, regularly serviced and as far as I know, it's in tip-top shape. The Accord is a manual and this problem is noticeable in 2nd-5th gears, not so much in 1st to my recollection.

My first thought would be alignment, or something with the wheels, except that it seems to have nothing to do with speed or turning ...and certainly nothing to do with braking. It's feels more like an engine problem.

If anyone has any ideas they'd surely be appreciated. Or, if anyone knows a good Honda mechanic in Orange County, CA; that'd be just as good. Preferably a independent specialist type.

Check tires for a seperation/out of round. Check for a bent axle.

Have you replaced your front struts. My 94 model accord did the same thing between 2000 to 2500 rpm in 4th and between 1800 and 2200rpm in fifth. once over 2200 rpm in fifth shaking goes away. I replace my worn struts with KYB struts and problem isn't there anymore.

axles, allignment, tires, wheel bearings. And thats it!...If it only vibrates when eccelerating it is a definate drivetrain issue and nothing else. If it vibrates when braking then ofcourse a rotor/caliper/mastercylinder issue.

If the car sounds fine, except for the shaking.. check your suspensions. check wheels. axels.. my brother.s toyota celica shake badly wen accelerating. it turn out to be his lug nuts on one of his wheels is not tight enough... and a friend of mine have a 98 prelude.. does the same thing shake and make weird noise when accelerating. it turn out to by his axels bad bearing... try checking it again.. hope you get it fix.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Good call on the struts... I'm not sure if those have ever been replaced so I wouldn't be suprised if they were the culprit. I'll have someone check out wheels, bearings, etc as well, just in case.

Thanks again!
