Default idling/reving question

i have a 99 accord ex and my car occassionaly, not all the time but occassionaly on its own, wether im stopped or still moving decides to rev the engine a bit say at the most 3k and goes back down and then revs and back down, over and over.
sometimes it stops by itslef and sometimes it stops after it stops after i shut the car off and then back on.
any ideas on what it could be? thanks so much for all your help and ideas

If it does this when the engine is warm it could be Throttle Position Sensor or MAP Sensor. If the engine is cold it could be the IACV (idle air control valve). All these parts are located on the Throttle Body.

Does the Engine Light come on?

Your thermostat is bad. My accord did this for years before I figured it out.

Starting with the simple stuff; How tight is the throttle cable?

this only happens once in a blue moon so could it be all that for just so little of an occurrance?

ive checked the throttle cable it is fine and nothing wrong with that,

the engine light is already on b/c i punched out the emissions on the cat so i should run a code on that right? it usually happens when its warm so it would be the throttle position sensor or MAP sensor... ill check into that

it could be the thermostat but idk......

any more helpwould be great!
