Whenever i turn my 94 accord ex on or off the antenna goes up or down and half way through stops and makes a horrible grinding sound. Seems like a gears bad or something? Anyone have any experience with this and know what the fix is/what it costs?

Go into your trunk panals and UNPLUG the antenna.

thats what i did to mine. i could still listen to radio too... i have the same problem a while back... no really sure whats the problem.. but i think its the motor must have went bad. what i did is turn off the radio, have the antenna goes down and unplug it from the back.. i think it look batter without the antenna sticking up neway..

The antenna motor has a clutch system inside of it, that is probably the noise you're hearing. First thing to try is to raise the antenna and clean it. Honda says no lube just clean. You might need to just replace the antenna mast if the antenna won't go all the way up or down.
Ive also have the same problem your describing with same year and 94 accord ex. Sometimes it will go down and other times it wont. To me I think the weather might have something to do with it. Warmer days it works and colder days it doesnt. My best suggestion like other people have mentioned is to just clean it and go from there..
this has happened to me several times in my 95 sedan. the problem is when it is cold outside it goes half way down and grinds to a standstill. this happens to me only during the winter time. one of the reason y i switched to s2k antenna so it won't happen again and looks better. my advice would be to switch to s2k antenna or put up with the grind during the cold harsh months in the boonies of minnesota.

My friend JR has a 94 Accord EX- same thing happened, he replaced it!
He also changed two of the window tracks and repaired the rust around the tire wells.
HONDA's are good engines but the other stuff is lacking!

I have a 94 accord that does the same thing in the winter on cold days. When it is warm outside this does not happen. if you can deal with what my wife calls the farting car in the winter I would suggest to leave it alone.
