Default Scuba Tank for Nitrous??

Is their any reason why I couldn't buy a shorty Scuba tank and just replace the valve with a nitrous one and use that?

I have most of the other parts already, I'm just short a tank and I get a really good discount at the local Scuba shop. From what I can see the pressure ratings are the same, unless their's some sort of coating on the inside of nitrous tanks that I'm unaware of?

Tens of thousands of people on Honda-tech, surely one of you has some knowledge of Nitrous systems, beyond pressing a red button on your steering wheel.

bump.

I'm not familiar with scuba diving, but any DOT approved bottle will work if it has a rating of 1800 pounds

Be afraid......be very very afraid..........

The threads in a scuba bottle will not mate to a 326CGA or a 660CGA nitrous service valve. Scuba tanks are also designed for 2200psi + operation with a compressed gas. Nitrous cylinders are designed for lower pressures and a higher internal volume for the liquid nitrous that is stored. Bottom line, go buy a nitrous bottle and save yourself and others around you from the potential of a dangerous situation.

Holy **** man, just buy a bottle or two. Kind of a weird question considering that EVERY nitrous kit comes with a bottle. Do a google on nitrous accidents, a lot of bad things happen when people don't follow instructions or abuse nitrous.

Thank you, I figured their had to be a specific reason to not use just any pressure rated cylinder.

Not sure about the threads on the neck.. But I do know the 10 pound bottle is about the same size as a alumnium 53 cufoot scuba tank..

I am a scuba diver and checked into this a little bit, the nitrous tanks are made by luxfer and they are a scuba tank manufacturer.. Guess it would be nice to have a low-pressure alumnium 120 in the back of the car..

even though you got the answer, and not going to do it, hopefully they would know or check atleast when you went to fill the tank, im sure they have some sort of standards, imagine the disaster if it blew up while being filled!

I have seen the aftermath of a scuba tank blowing up.. I have seen a burst disc go off while filling a tank and that was bad enough..

ah geez.. that would suck, yeah i was thinking that the problem wouldn't be if it was "safe" in the car, or near the car, but just filling it up, i hope i never see that, had a friend with a NX kit on his itr, he left the bottle warmer on and the valve closed, good thing he had a blow down tube installed! we were driving down the road and he was behind me, noticed a huge cloud behind his car. money down the drain, but atleast the bottle didn't blow up

Yup.. The pics that I seen were in a shop in the Carabean somewhere, I dont think anyone got hurt, Seen pics of some moron hitting a tank valve with a hammer because the valve was stuck and the tank was filled and the neck cracked and ripped the vice the guy had it secured to right off the table, then it went through 5 solid concreat walls before stopping..

I think that shop was in Trinidad, I think it's almost a standard part of PADI courses to show those pictures..

From what I've found out at the local shops the tank standards for Scuba are higher than for Nitrous, but the threads are different...Why the standards for nitrous aren't higher I'm not sure...
