ok, I have a 91 Accord SE, and you can hear the valves in one cylinder ticking. I've gotten the clearances corrected, it's not that. As far as I can see and have been told, I would need to fix that. So that means opening the head, to replace the valves, which means a lot of work. Since it's an aging car and I want to keep it in best running shape...

While that's open and i'm replacing the valves, I may as well do some more work, I can imagine, to save myself money and time. But other work like what?

The car has 58,000 miles on it. I know that's not much but it has been driven almost every day throughout most of it's life. Is there anything i can do, short of a rebuild? If problems keep adding up I may as well, i guess. but please, for the love of all that is holy, someone present me with more cost effective alternatives, I would appreciate it.

Thank you,
GuyverZen

might as well replace timing belt and waterpump while you have it apart... make sure your cam seals are ok... valve cover gasket...

Ah, thanks for responding. Already did all that stuff. I guess I'm all right then for the most part.

Refresh the head a little. Since you'll be pulling the head already, at least replace the valve seals, and check to see if the valve stems have any play to them in the valve guides. Do the cam oil seal(s), check for wear on all your rocker arms/valve tappets. Go nuts, replace some of it, replace it all, its really up to you.
