How long before replacing Azenis?
Just curious as to how long everyone keeps their Azenis for. Right now mine are at the wear bars all over, with a little less tread on the outsides. I only use them for autocross. Oh yeah they're 195/60/14 if that matters

I have found they do slow down a bit once they get past the wear bars and become less progressive in their loss of grip, and I usually toss them at that point - but you're fine running them to the cord also.

Yeah, I learned this the hard way at Nelson Ledges last year
I used my last set until only ghost tread was left, and then tossed them. Bought them used with 60% tread, then beat on them for 3/4 a season of autocrossing, 2 Evolution schools, 2 track days, and 6000 miles of street driving with some major toe-out. Uber-durable

I concur that Falkens run from full tread will lose some grip before cording.
But my experience has been that shaved Falkens will lose nothing until the magic threads come out and show themselves. I did some testing last year that verified this. Evo dial-in school and we just kept running the tires to see when they would self-destruct. Kept going faster until significant cord showed up.
Given all of that, I believe a certain amount of heat cycling is the culprit in the full-tread case.
YMMV, literally.

I use them on my daily driver and use them till i see cord although i wouldn't recommend this in wet climates... in the rain with no tread they are a bit interesting !
I used a set for 12k miles until they only had a very little tread left... gave them to a friend with a 240 and I think he still uses them to autocross on occasionally. I wonder if they're third-hand yet.
here's mines..

Got about 8k's on them, rest of the tred is still showing but i locked mines right there on the last autoX

I've worn a few sets so much that the tread was completely gone (can't even see where it once was), and then to the point of threads appearing. They start to lose grip around the time that they get down to the wear bars, and they are about useless in the rain at that point too. I think heat cycles play a part in this too though.

That's about what mine looked like before I put them away last season... I'm going to try and get another event or two out of 'em.

tires wear slower when they are bald becuase when they have more tread the tread flexes more which cuase heat.
what is ghost tread?

With this theory, would skinny snow tires be quicker?
