Default Brand new? Or Used??

My buddy is about to buy another bike, he has owned 2 bikes ...one brand new and one used....he sold his last bike and is abot to purchase another bike...He is trying to decide weither or not to buy brand new or not...You can save a couple thousand $$ by going used but I have had very bad experience with buying a used bike so i told him not to but he can't really afford to buy brand new....he would only buy a bike a year old....just wanted to get some of your guys opinions, he doesn't want to get screwed like i did and buy a bike thats been ridden to ****....but he doesn't wanna get a loan for the extra couple thousand $$ to buy brand new....thanks guys....

I voted go used b/c you can find REALLY nice bikes w/ like less than 2-3K miles on them in mint condition. If he doesnt have the doe the tell him to let somebody else take the depreciation hit and then buy... just my opinion

Thanks guys....Only thing hes worried about is the horror story i have from buying used...I bought from a dealership a bike that they told me had never been down, i brought it home and rode it for a year and half then tried to sell it, 3 people backed out when they realized the bike had over $7,000 damage done to it...I had all kinds of problems with the bikes, the fork seals went after about 2 weeks, and i didn't even do any wheelies so i am suspicious that the seals where already dead and they just cleaned it up so i didn't notice when looking at it....Now i know what blown seals feel like and i am very sceptical about buying used...sorry for that but thats my horror story with buying used...its hard to tell how hard a bike has been ridden

I would have bought a used bike, but I got a new bike for a used price.

My next bike will probably be a Gixxer750, but I won't buy a new one.

I bought mine used because they gave me a zero down payment plan at the dealership for a new one. But if I could've waited (like 2 years ) I would've save money and bought a used one. But I'm not THAT responsible. I just couldn't wait any longer. I waited 3 years to buy my R6 tho.

i was deadset on buying a new gsxr750 or 600rr when i moved to SD but there weren't any within 100 miles. i ended up getting a nearly new 04 and payed about half of what a new one would have run me after taxes, fees and all the other bull. also saved on taxes because i bought used.

I'd buy used becuase sportbikes value depreciate too much to buy new.

I did not vote because there is no real correct answer. new and pay a semi reasonible price by shopping around or buy use, and save a grand or more... it really is up to you. For myself, it is pretty darn easy to spot a bike that has been hammered... I mean it is so transparent it is not funny.

Yo i vote New. If he doesnt have the cashola upfront just chill on it for a lil while then drop a dime on a Brand new ride. the bonus to having a Brand new ride is having a warrnty, Knowing that your the only ***** that has ridden it, Its smells new and feels new, then you can trick it out however you want and dont have to worry about if the last cheeseburger head that owned it took care of it or thrashed it. No if its for the track then go used cause your gonna thrash it but for the street you ride in style Bro!!!

You can tell how hard its been ridden by looking at it?? You can tell if the engine has been raced in neautral (very hard on it) you can tell if the guy rides around at 12,000 rpm all the time?? thats awesome, please let me know how you can tell if its been ridden that hard without pulling the engine apart....

Im not sure how warrenty's are in the US but i imagine their the same, only one year after purchase, but if your the only guy riding it then you don't even really need warranty do you....I don't think so, unless your using it for a track bike or stunt bike in which case the warrarnty won't cover what happens anyway (blown fork seals ect)

Does this apply if you buy the bike via private sale? Can you call the manufacturer and buy a warranty??? Or do you have to buy from a dealership to get this... Thanks alot for your inputs guys, I'll let me friend read your posts.

yes I can... It is fairly evident from outward apperances combined with mroe than 25 years or road riding/racing experience. There is no way you can "SEE" internal problems... you need to try and learn to listen, before talking

Ok that was really useful...but can you give some educated examples of how to tell?? instead of just saying you know?

Warranty is transferable and in the base of my bike, the Suzuki extended warranty was transferable for $25.

Some basic things to look for and listen too are at idle can you you hear piston slap or the valves knocking if the engine has a growl and does it smoke. THose all lead to internal problems which lead to madd cashola. To look for: at th e base of the cylinders and where the head meets the cyclinder. If you see any oil or coolant i would walk a way form it. If you pull the clucth in and it clunks and moves its possible the clutch is worn out. ANd we all know fork seals but check the rotors to see if they are wearing evenly.

Im still sticking with buying new it just gives me that warm fuzzy feeling hahahaha!!!

If you can afford new, then buy new. If you cant then buy used. Yes, you are taking a hit when buying new, but there is something about having something brand new. Its kinda like nailing a virgin.

Virgins suck in bed. Yeah it's cool the first time but you're just playing catch up after that... kinda like buying new.
