i just hit 190k with my 94 ex ej1. it runs kind of loud and isnt very smooth when it runs or idles. what can i do to make it run smoother and not shake so much?
Tune-up, and adjust the valve lash.

Well when was the last time you changed the cap, rotor, spark plugs, and spark plug wires? You could also move from a 5W-30 oil to a 10W-30 oil. I personally stay with 5W-30 oil and substitute with 1 quart of Lucas Oil Stabilizer....It keeps the 'knocking' and makes my engine run a lot smoother. But just get a tune up or replace all those items i stated up top!

How much would it cost to change the cap and rotor? i read a lot about that but im not sure if i can do it myself. ill probaly change my spark plugs and wires. which ones are good? i switched to vavoline 5w-30 high milege oil like last year and recently i used the valvoline maxlife engine protector thing that is like 4 bucks at walmart. it ran a little smoother for a little but its the same after a few days.

You can get a cap + rotor from the sponsor section here on H-T for less than $20 shipped.
I did my first cap and rotor last week on my y8, took me all of 30 minutes. Its an incredibly simple process.

some would suggest seafoam...but then again your motors got a few miles on it...some people have done it with no probs with even more miles, but who's to know
willyou notice a differancewith a new rotor and cap, along with new spark plugs and wires? if so how much. i've been thinking of doing this but keep stalling!
how does everyone feel bout replacing one quart of oil with that oil stabilizer? ive used it for about 4 months on a previous car, but ive heard that thats no good for a motor
Ive heard that its not good too, but I know it worked wonders on my car... I had a really really rough idle, and after using Lucas oil stabilizer, it smoothed out a whole lot... But I dunno... If I were you Id read up on it some more to see the pros and cons on it, if it messes up my motor I dont really care sinceIm swapping it in about 3 1/2 months...

A tune up once and a while will is great for making you realize how nice it is to have a high mileage Honda
cap
rotor
wires
plugs
change coolant
change oil- 10w30 for me
oil filter of course
fuel filter
valve adjustment
PCV valve
reset ECU
air filter
And then give the engine bay a nice cleaning, that won't help with performance, but a clean engine is a slightly happier one.
