Was wondering, is this insurance fraud?
I'm 21 w/ perfect driving record and was quoted $220/month to insure 01 prelude. Howver, when filling out the online quote form, it ask me if the car is used for commuting, pleasure, etc.
When I put "pleasure" and put down like 5000 miles annual, my insurance rate is much cheaper than if I click on commuter.
SO why doesn't everyone just put down "pleasure" for cheaper rates even if there car is a daily driver? HOw would the insurance company know?

I was gonna put down weekend driving only and like 5000 miles a year, when I'll probably do 20k a year. I was kinda worried that what if i get into an accident during the weekdays, then they may denied me coverage befcuase I put down weekend pleasure driving only.
Just wondering has anyone else abuse the system this way. If the annual miles you drive doesnt' affect insurance price, why would they even ask you taht though?

I work at an Insurance Company, Safety Insurance to be exact. I have to say that the mileage is not a problem, and it will not affect your premium. The insurance company wants to know about your mileage annually, because if you drive under 13k miles, you'll get a discount. And trust me, if you want that discount, you better have prove of your mileage, such as the miles that's on your title, and they'll compare it with the mileage when you apply for the discount.
hey thanks man, I didn't know that. I plan on purhcaisng a car soon, so I"m not sure how that mile discount thing work.
Is there any big savings between putting down "Pleasure" and "commuter" driver?

the insurance company wants to know what you use your veh for, so if you lie to lower your rates, then yes, its fraud......its fraud bc if you say you use your veh for pleasure, that means that that veh is not going to be on the road as often as someone who uses their veh for commute, which means you wouldnt be as large as a risk. so, if there ever is a claim and your company happens to find out that you lied about that, they have the option of denying coverage depending on the situation. the insur company i work for doesnt ask anything about mileage, just about vehicle usage.
