I am slowly building up my ls vtec motor and recently I was working on the rear main seal and the crank seal by the oil pump. I removed the oil seals and purchased some new honda ones but the problem I have is I think I drove the seals in too far.

I thought that the seals just had to be put all the way in but afterwards when i was flipping through the service manual it said to drive it in leaving xxx amount of space.

Well just my luck and my stupidity I the seals right until they seated in their holders.

No damage to the seal but its just in too far. Will this cause oil leaks?

I'm not too gung ho on spending another 30 bucks on two seals...

lets see pics. I don't think it would be a prob but then again i don't know the extent to as how much they are pushed in. And you definitely don't want to have to drop the tranny to replace that rear seal, plus if that rear seal completely blows it will pretty much ruin your clutch due to the oil soaking into it.

If the seal isn't damaged re-use it and install it right. Check it thoroughly tho.

 

the seal is basically driven completely into the race that holds the seal. What I don't get about driving these seals is how on earth do you drive them in evenly and have the necessary gap at the bottom? When I was putting them in I just used a block of wood, some oil and a hammer. It is driven in squarely into the hole.

Can't supply pics since I kinda put the engine together. I am asking b/c I was just thinking about it today at work...

I did the same thing man. wood block deal. I didnt have a prob but then again im real by the book and i know i wouldve left some space.
