Oil seal seating depth
The helms manual is very specific as to the clearance behind the rear main oil seal (0.2 - 0.8mm between seal and right side cover). I don't see why you can't just bottom the seal out in the housing. Can anyone tell me why it would make any difference?
I installed my new seal, and unfortunately got the top too deep by about 1mm. I'm trying to decide if I should drive the other part of the seal deeper to make it even, or if I should remove and reinstall it to spec.
Thanks guys

Re: Oil seal seating depth (zfreak)
It'll be fine pressed all the way in. The rear main oil seal was leaking on my JDM b16a, so ordered a new one. but I didn't wanna press it in myself cause i didn't wanna damage the seal. So i took it to honda and had them press it in. When i went to pick it up, the seal was pressed all the way in. I said there should be a gap between the seal and cover. The guy said it will be fine don't worry. So I installed it and 3 years later its fine no leaks or anything.

Thanks for that info. That makes me feel better. I'm going to drive it in evenly and call it a day.
thanks again
