2000 type R tranny!!
hey i have a b16 engine and i just got a type r tranny (2000 teg) i looked up the gear ratio and it seems that this would be a better tranny (pluse it has lsd) am i right?......
USDM ITR trannies has the same ratios as the B16A ones. The only difference is the LSD which makes a world of difference if you do any sort of racing.

im glad you have a ITR tranny, and thats its better than a B16 tranny.
if you were local.. ide hang out with you... its the ITR tranny that did it.. if you were still B16, i wouldnt' associate with you.

Yes, both are 4.40:1 except the 96-97 JDM ITR's are 4.75:1...
Other then the LSD, you picked yourself up a tranny that is identical to the B16 one.

you mean 98-01 jdm right?
b16 = usdm itr = 96-97 jdm itr = 4.40
jdm itr 98-01 = 4.75

Yeah, thats it!
Just a question, would the later model JDm ITR trannies(98-01) be better than the USDM ones because of thier final drives? 4.40 vs. 4.75?
wouldn't the 4.75 cause you to rev to like 4500 rpm during freeway cruising at 80 MPH? worse gas mileage?
Could someone please explain this?

Yeah, but you stay higher in the powerband between shifts, and it's much better for taking turns since you can stay high in RPMS without downshifting as much. I've seen people with final drives as high as 4.9 on type R tranny's (aftermarket ofcourse).
BTW I've heard the type R tranny has stronger synchros than the B16, so if that's true, there's another plus to having it

Why does everyone assume that high rpms = worse mileage when it comes to freeway driving? Before I tuned the car at all, I got 30mpg city or highway all the time. Sure, it spins high on the highway, but who cares? You will wind through gears faster, accelerate quicker, and put more power down to the ground. Its the name of the game.
And yes, I forgot. The sychros are carbon coated (I believe is what it is) and are identical to that found in the B18C1 tranny. They are better then the synchros found in the B16 tranny too.

Well, I was just wondering due to the fact that I am considering changing out my GSR tranny for an ITR one.
But since it looks like nothing is different from GSR tranny, I'll just buy a Quaife and call it a day...

Well it's shorter geared and has a higher final drive than the GSR tranny... Your car will definitely be faster.

ITR has dual syncros as aposed to single per gear. alot easyer to shift and less grindage.

That sounds right. I dunno what the hell I was thinking of with carbon coated synchros... Must have been spending too much time at the gearspeed website or something..
