Timing Belt Question
I have a 98 LX with the VTEC 4.
I'm in the low 80k mileage range, so it is time to start thinking about changing the old timing belt. Has anybody ever done this themselves? If so, how hard is it to do (I have limited experience)?
Also, do you recommend changing anything else while it is all opened up? Things like balance shaft belt, water pump, belt tensioner spring, main seal, etc.?
Thanks in advance

If you have limited experience, I dont think you should try. With a timing belt, you usually change the water pump, and if you want to change your cam or cam sprocket, that is when you do it also.
it requires your side motor mount removal and requires two belts, timing belt and timing balancer belt
if you are familiar with mechanics and have a large amount of time to do the work I would say take a stab at it but Wont Be Beat is right, it is pretty complicated and hard
you have to time the oil pump, crank, and timing belt drive pulley to specs also

Thanks for the replies, guys.
I'll change the water pump. What about the tensioner, main seal, or balance shaft belt?
Also, why would you change the sprocket? I wouldn't think it would get much wear since it only touches a rubber belt. And changing the cams...were you referring to a higher performance cam? 'Cause at only 81k I would think it still has a lot of life left in it. This car is nothing special...just my wifes daily driver.
Thanks

i would take the time and inspect those things but they don't have to be replaced at the same time
i wouldn't change the cam or cam gear unless you were going for some performance, cams don't wear to the point of replacement through the life of the motor unless run without oil

I suggested the cam and cam sprocket because I am getting a stage 1 cam and performance sprocket and when I called up some shops, they suggested changing the timing belt at the same time.
Remind me again, what ttt means?
