BROKEN WHEEL STUD...help..
hey guys...i was putting my GSR's back on, and while i was taking the lugnuts off....the one lock nut wasnt getting loose...i didnt want to strip it so i put some WD-40 on it...then i tried again, and then the WHOLE wheel stud and lug spun!....and now i had 3 GSR rims on, and one gay *** steelie that wouldnt come off!....so i tried drilling it, that did not work...then i just put a breaker bar on the lug, and broke the stud rite off!...now...my question is how would i change the stud...i know the rotor and dustshield come off....so would an sutozone sell 1 stud??....and is that all i would need??...or would i need a new hub assembly??
thanks guys
thanks guys
You can buy one stud no problem.
To change it the 'right way' you have to press out the hub to replace the stud.
If you do that you might as well replace all the studs.
You will have to replace the wheel bearing as well.
There is a short way to do it where you pound out what's left. It should be a tight fit, but should slip out the back. You can't do this with good studs or ones that are not broken. Only broke ones have enough room to slip out the back.
Then you take your new one and rind down half the circle on the opposite end of the threads (the back end). You can slip that in past the knuckle since the full round portion won't be back there.
I have 3 studs that I did this way. They have been working just fine for over 2 years.
