i heard that 92-95 civic dx/lx trannies use cable
while the d16z6 uses hydro, is that correct??

No.

All 1992-up Civics use hydro clutches.

Hydro means that the clutch fork is moved by a series of hydraulic componenets called the clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, and they also have hoses and hard lines in the clutch system.

Cable trannies use a cable to pull the clutch fork, and they are found on 91-older Civics and 93-older Integras.

 

Umm hate to the be the bearer of bad new but you can find the Cable Trannies in the 92-95 civic as I have one that came that way.

you will find w/ the hydro clutch that the clutch and shifting are much easier/smoother.
the cable tranny isn't as smooth but depends on what you may like.
My 93 EX sedan parts car had a hydro tranny in it but it got junkyarded before I could pull it..

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but someone rigged that cable tranny in your car then, because ALL 1992-UP CIVICS USE HYDRO TRANNIES!

Post pics of your car, the cable tranny, etc.

He is certianly correct. 92 and up civics are hydro, same with 93 and up tegs. Maybe someone tried to do an auto to manual swap on your car, in which case alot of people will use cable tranny b/c it is much easier.

 

no actually I was thinking of something else...been a long nite and no sleep..I have a hydro in my 93 DX 1.5L. I guess I need to hit the bed...

cable and hydro just describes the nature the clutch engages.

Its actually 94+ integra that will have a hydro tranny system. The '93s still utilized a cable tranny.

 

now, i have an 1993 automatic sol si w/ d16z6
if i put in the dx tranny, will it be still faster than the a/t?? since it has longer gearing...
