Default About Type-S Pistons and H22A1...

ive come across a deal to get 4 brand new Type-S pistons with wristpins and a complete set of rings for under $200. Im looking for a significant add in power while keeping the car reliable (N/A) with maybe some cams down the road. i figured if i can get these relatively cheap and not have to pay a fortune for labor or have to buy a ton of other parts i'd go for it as a nice addition to my 96 lude. So what else would be needed for the install? after some searching, i found that you have to replace the rods on H22A1's and not H22A4's. if this is the case, where could i find suitable rods and for how much? also what does labor usually run on piston installs?

You will have to get your A1 rods rebushed to accept the floating wrist-pin design.

Do jdm h22's have the floating wristpin design or would those rods have to be rebushed too?

I have always wondered what would happen if you just honed out the small end of the A1 rods to have .0005" clearance with the pin and drill an oiling hole. The S2000 documentation claims to use bushless floating pins. Worst cast the pin would sieze with the rod and you would end up with the normal A1 config where all the movement is between the piston and the pin.

Anyway, if you can't get a good deal on modifying the H22A1 rods, you can get some eagles pretty cheap these days. Good luck.

Most would have to be rebushed, unless you somehow got
a JDM motor that was newer than 96
