Default help w/ ls motor swap

ok my friend and i were helping our friend put in a obd1 ls motor into his obd1 92 si everything went smoothly and we got the car running and we left the car running for about 5 minutes.

so here's where i need help

my friend pulls one of the plug wires and the car sputters and dies. we try and restart it and it wont start.

-so we check for spark by taking out the plug and touching it to the valve cover and nothing happens. no spark

-then we take the plug from the distributor and there's still no spark.

so now we don't know what to do. and were about to buy a new distributor tomorrow but we don't want to pay for something if we don't have to.

what do you guys think might be wrong.

thanks for any help.

I guess first thing you could do is to try a good, working distributor and trouble shoot from there. CEL's?

how long was the car running when you guys pulled out the spark plug wire while the engine was running?

maybe check teh spark plug and see if its fouled or f'd up...

the car was running for about 5 minutes we pulled all the plugs and there all fine, im starting to think that we broke the timing belt, but lets all say a prayer that, that didnt happen.

why would the timing belt break if you removed the spark wires ? lol..
when you try and turn the car on, does the engine crank/spin, but just not start up?

If you have no spark then its your ignition coil

if your problem lies within the distributor(as it sounds it does) i highly recommend seeing if you can borrow a working distributor from someone for a quick second to see if yours went bad. coils and ignitors are like over a hundred bucks each, which is way to expensive to be replacing just upon a hunch. trust me, i was in the exact same situation one year ago

Sounds like you killed the ignitor by pulling a wire off when it was running, I've heard of this happening before.
