GS-R or Prelude?
I am in the market for a new car. I have been looking for a 2000 Prelude or a 2000 GS-R. Its a hard disision because both cars in my opinion looks great.
But lets get down to the performance part. I know a stock vs stock they both run somewhere in the mid 15's which is great. I just want to know which motor would be more effective with the basic bolt ons such as I/H/E. Maybe underdrive pulleys and cams.
I'm not really into nothing big just somewhere in the mid to high 14's is good enough for me.

More market for b-series. end of story.
Bolt-ons: Prelude
All-out: Integra
Drive them both and make a decision. People arguing on the internet is not going to help.

Both are decent, but from what i've read B-series respond a little better to bolt-ons, (someone please correct me there if i'm wrong.) I bought a Prelude because there are far too many Integras in my area. I wanted something different, something not as popular. Besides, the Prelude looks sexy as hell. Depending on what you plan to do with the car, Base models typically are easier to find parts for.
I wasn't sure which forum to post on. Lets not be bias about it. I just want to know which motor would put out better numbers with just basic bolt on's.
And BTW, is the GS-R going to have a higher insurance rate? I think it was rated as one of the highly theft cars. What are some of your guys prices for insurance right now with your preludes? And if anyone one of you have a gs-r, it would be nice to hear some rates also.

well, insurance will vary greatly on location, age, and driving history. Among a few other things. I currently pay about $450/month for full coverage on my sig. As for theft rate... Acura Integras, if i remember correctly, were 6-7 out of the top ten in 2003. Heres a link, middle of the page.

i kinda agree though with satan on this one. "some questions cannot be answered on the internet." my cost is MY cost. it could be Alot cheaper for you, maybe even more expensive. Like the man said, call'um up. And as i have been reminded in the past, do a search, most of the things your asking can be answered with some quick search terms in any search engine.

Ok thanks for all the advice. I'm going to do some research on the topic myslef.
BTW I'm leaning towards a 2000 Prelude Base model. Plan on getting Greddy Evo2 Exhaust, Greddy header, and an AEM V2 intake. I hear the V2 gives power through out the entire RPM ange and the CAI just gives high end. I'm confused on which on to pick. But thats probably what i'm just going to do. With that it should set me somewhere in the high 14's, at least I hope.

according to their website, ( http://www.greddy.com ) Greddy doesn't make a header for the 5th gen. maybe you can modify the one they offer, a 93-96 SI header. that doesnt mean there aren't any other good options. Research that while you at it.

Yes, ITR's and GS-R's are stolen quite often.

<---stolen integra
hence owner of a prelude.
Insurance on my 96 integra was 300/month
insurance on my 01 prelude type-SH is 210/month
0 tickets on my record for the integra
1 ticket on my record for the prelude
you get the idea

I would rather have an integra gsr than a prelude myself just base on looks. Powerplant wise i prefer the prelude......answer=gsr with h22 swap

The gs-r engine has more potential in the long run. It "considered" to be a better engine, although it does not supply as much power as the H22, because of it's response to certain mods.
If it's going to be simple bolt-on's for you, I would very much go with a Prelude. I have an H22 with v2 and all that hunka-junk... I give it a

well, its financed, and in the state of FL, you have to have full coverage on a car your financing. I'm also 21 and have 1 speeding ticket and a not-at-fault accident on my history.good times.

I agree with you about the prelude being a good car, and it does take bolt ons pretty good as well. Intake, exhaust, and header. That is just from my experience on my own 01 prelude satin silver. I would go w/ the prelude also, but I think that the GSR you will have more options in the long run.

given what you want out of the car, i'd recommend the lude. mid 14's with bolt ons shouldn't be too hard.
but sometimes when i'm a frustrated prelude owner, i envy some of the things that b-series guys get to pull: ITR trannies with LSD and 4.7 FD's, CTR cams/pistons, etc etc.
If i was in the market for a new honda, i'd get an ITR and keep it under lock and key. otherwise, it'd be another prelude.

That is weird about the prelude. I have the 01 lude, nad when i frist got it my insurance was 280, then it went to 300 and 325 after that. Every 6 months i was getting a increase. Clean record and all. Something about that car makes the rates higher w/ some insurance companies. Not until last year did I find a company that got me down to 145. Good luck w/ that. Shop around alittle.
