Default 90 DX Hatch WON'T start ???

Ok I have this 90 DX hatch that is really being a pain. The thing died on my friend and hasn't started since. The car was running and just stopped one day. He gave the car to me. I am trying to fix the car and use it as my daily driver. Since I have had the car I replaced the main fuse and the distributer and the coil and I am no closer to getting it to start. The fuel pump does turn on and the car cranks but I have no spark? All the grounds look fine and the car was running fine up to the day that it just stopped while on the road. I don't have any more ideas. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Is the ecu giving any error codes? To me it sounds like a timing issue. Check ignition and cam timing and make sure both are set to spec. How did you check that you didn't have any spark?

check the wiring on the dizzy for breaks/grounding out. Try a known good dizzy from a friend or something to rule out that your dizzy might be bad. I bought a new one from distributor king, and it was junk... had to pay 500$ for a new OEM one, but my codes went away.

Replace the coil inside of the dist.

95% sure that is the problem.

They like to burn themselves out.

I had a 90 teg ls that died on the road. No spark either. 10 hours later it was found out to be a worn ignition switch. Take of the plastic arond the column and try to work the wires going to it. It may just fire up. If it does shut it off and go get a new switch. Don't try driving as it will just die again. Always remember to look at the ENTIRE wiring diagram. Check and test everything before buying parts and guessing. This is costly as most electronics are non-returnable.

Good luck!

He said he had no spark though so I would rule out ignition in that case. However, he never stated how he knows he has no spark. How did you check spark?

Make sure the camshaft is rotating..

If the timing belt breaks, the distributor won't turn which
will keep it from firing also..

Pull the distributor cap off and have someone turn it over
while you watch for the rotor to spin..

That would be my next quess also,
Especially if the ignitor says "OKI" on it..
That one was recalled and I have had two of them fail on me..

He did say he replaced the distributor...
But you never know if the replacement is OK or not..

I checked for spark by pulling a plug and grounding it. Haven't tried the ecu yet that may be it?
