Please help, this is driving me crazy!
I have a 92 Accord EX-R with automatic transmission.
The car has been great for 3+ years but I now have the following problem:
If I drive the car 4km or more and then turn off the ignition for a short stop (5 mins) and then try starting it and driving it again I have the following problem:
The car falls flat on its face at approximately 2,000 RPM’s for about 10-20 seconds, it feels like it’s running out of gas or stuck in a gear.
If you keep on the gas it finally pulls through and drives like normal again but if you turn off the car for any amount of time and then go to drive it again the problem comes back.
This cycle will continue unless you turn off the car for a prolonged period of time (overnight or 5+ hours)
If I drive the car after letting it sit over night it drives flawlessly for any distance short or long.
I can start it up in the morning and drive 300km’s and it will not stumble or stutter once but if I dare turn off the ignition somewhere then the problem is back.
This is actually getting dangerous as it can happen when merging or pulling in front of traffic.
The dealership checked the EGR and all vacuum lines but did not find anything.
They can’t reproduce the problem but they want to replace the entire distributor assembly ($800 CDN)
This worries me as they can’t reproduce the problem but they want to replace this before they can determine what the real problem is.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks to all,
Zak

I forgot to mention that the dealership checked the plugs and wires and said they were fine.
MPG is pretty good, I usually get 550 - 575 Km's per tank approx 350 miles in City.
