Very OT but still good: Last week in the "roll cage"
Some of j00 may remember that I was in an accident three months ago and have been sporthing this for the past three months.
Well, this is my last week in the roll cage. You know, right when I finally get adjusted to wearing this they're gonna take it off and my world is gonna be turned upside down again!
For those who are curious, on Friday the docs will remove the upright poles and the vest portion of the halo. Then, I get to have a "fluoroscope" (spelling?). While this sounds kinda cool, rest assured it will be painful. The doc is gonna take the ring (pins and ring will still be attached to my head) and move my head all the way forward and all the way back. Doesn't sound like much, but keep in mind that this is the very same head that hasn't moved so much as an inch in the past 3 months!
But I'm excited nonetheless!
And in case anybody is wondering what is going to happen to those 4 very large titanium pins that are piercing my skull; I'm framing them and hanging them in my room :D

If the way I've been feeling in the last two weeks is any indication of how much I've healed then I have nothing to worry about.
The doc has given me a 90% chance for a full recovery.
Just an aside: My doc, a neurologist (sp?) has had zero lawsuits against him. That alone says tons about his credibility and talent. This man is great! Honest, friendly, upbeat, and geniunely acts like he enjoys taking care of me.
And after 3 solid months of taking vicodin and flexeril I am more than ready to be off the drugs lol huh?

Carl, what were the extent of the injuries again?
I remember when I broke my hand, I had to do similar (albeit on a far smaller / less severe scale) having to do the range of motion physical therapy stuff. It was...not much fun.

Karl (hee hee, we have the same name*)-
I fractured the 5th and 6th cervical vertabrae. The fractures were on the postier side of the vertabrae and there was no displacement of bone (I sound all smart!).
Actually, there will be no physical therapy. I asked the doc about this and he said having some physical therapist trying to get a greater range of motion could possibly do more damage than good. So I'll just wear a hard neck-collar for another month and then I'll be done.
*drugs make me giggle

eh, I want to have a bling bling keepsake from this whole experience. I'm donating everything elso from the halo to the hospital so someone who couldn't otherwise afford a $2000 halo can get one so they have the chance to have a speedy recovery from similar injuries
I think I'm going to have someone take a nice portrait picture of me in the halo and I'll frame the pic and the pins together. It'll be neat! Besides, how many people can you say you've met who have had pins in their skull?

psssst! to sound all smart, spell it "posterior". But that's ok, I don't think I could spell Vicodin if i had been taking it for 3 months.
Best of luck dude, you need to be playing video games to keep those reflexes and mad skillzors up during the down time.

Have no fear, my GT3 skillz have gone up exponentially. Friends gave me a PS2 + GT3 when I was in the hospital, and before this semester started my daily routine was as follows:
-Get up
-Eat
-Play PS2
-Take drugs
-get sleepy and lay down
-repeat
I actually have a little GT3 challenge going on between some friends. I like to call it "DeepForest Unlimited"
-any car (no F1 cars!)
-any mods
-Deep Forest
.RJ already sk00led me in a ZZII, but I managed to beat him in a Toyota GT1 (59.269 secs)
All you GT3 veterans should be able to beat that, I'm still a GT3 n00b

In the GT1 I was in the 56's or 57's - I'd have to look when I get home

Good luck man... if it's any consolation, fluoroscopies LOOK really cool. Kinda like a moving x-ray, I had to have one done a while back to check for spinal cord bind after post-concussion CT-scans showed that the stem of my spinal cord is bent out of whack. So, if you can keep your eyes open enough... take a peek at the screen, it looks cool!
Damn- from now on, every time I'm about to complain about my braces, I'm going to think back to your picture. Congrats on a speedy recovery and kudos for the positive attitude (read some of your old posts too)

Ditto what Uncle Ben said about the positive attitude. I'll be sure to remember that next time I complain about my nagging lower back pain

This begs the question...how does one lay down with a roll cage on the head?
Oh, and I took Vicodin for the wisdom teefs back in December, but they didn't do much for me. Maybe I needed to pop 2 at a time?

Well, I sleep just like anybody else, laying down. It's just a bit more of an event if I decide I want to roll over. Can't sleep on my stomach though, which is ok because I've never slept on my stomach.
What size were j00r Vicodin's? I've got big ones, and trust me, they have an effect on me.
2 vicodin (full dose) + 1 flexeril = nice body buzz.
