Default RSX-sequential shift sequence

I have an auto-05 RSX (made a big mistake of not getting Type-S but LA traffic is just too much and I commute a total of 2 hours everyday, mostly in bumper to bumper).

The automatic transmission acceleration sucks and wastes mad gas but the tiptronic is much better.

I just wanted to know if the sequence is the same as a regular stick, and if it is or is not, what's the miles/rpm for each gear.

Also if I'm in 5th gear at 50miles and coming to a redlight, as I break should I let it automatically go to 1st as I stop, or downshift manually as the speed decrease.

Any help appreciated.

shift sequence? huh?

goes from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 5. heheh

downshifting is not to help you stop. downshifting is to help you accelerate after you slow down beyond the power band for the higher gear.

just leave it on auto. your car wastes mad gas because you have a case of footus leadus.

1 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 5 sounds right

who says you cant downshift to reduce ur speed in combo w/ the brakes? i do it every time i'm coming to a stop. it doesnt hurt anything using the engine as a brake to bring down ur speed by downshifting to lower gears plus u reduce having to use the brakes as much to stop. how do u think trucks stop and go down steep grades? as to the auto i'm not sure, u'd just have to figure it out urself by trial and error. it probably wouldnt be as smooth in ur auto though, cause when i downshift like that i make sure to match the rpm's.

if you are looking to save gas you should keep the RPMs low.

yup if you are worried about gas consumption you best do what i do and keep it under 2200rpm because thats when our motor switches from 12 valves to 16 valves ("i-VTEC")

actually it does wear down the engine when u "downshift" to slow yourself down. you're causing increased friction on the engine parts. $50 brake pads $$$$$$ engine parts

Yeah i have to go with krystar on that one. Down shiftin is just gonna wear down your clutch disk more. I rather wear down my brakes than my clutch because i already know how it is like changin the clutch. MUCH more DIFFICULT than changing brake pads.

that might be but i've had 6 cars 5 having manual trannys and done that with every single one of them and never had one engine or clutch problem.

I disagree. If you drive in as much traffic as I do, you learn to drive through stop and go traffic, and downshifting definitely helps you stop.

You should've just bought a Hybrid if you're so concerned with gas....

downshifting in the automatic is pointless unless you need more power from the lower gear, if you use the brake as you slow itll downshift for you automatically.

Yeah, in terms of an automatic transmission it is pointless....but in terms of manual, it's part of driving....

hes not driving a manual though is he? Yes downshifting is good on a 5 speed.

Hes driving an auto. Just hit the brake.

exactly, downshifting a manual its part of driving, especially in traffic. in an auto i wouldnt recommend it, but u could still do it. driving like that i usually get about 30K+ miles on a set of pads cause im not using the brakes as hard

talked to the dealer today, and i can trade in for a type-s for 3100

type-s and auto w/ leather diff is 1300

taking a 1800 hit since the car has been titled, but i've only owned it for a month and it has 2k miles on it

Tax isn't a problem because I'll only be paying tax on the difference which will end up being about 180bucks

What do you guys think I should do? Take a 1800 hit now or wait? Also what do you think the depreciation will be in about 6 months.

And how much trouble do you guys have in traffic and hills. And I'm talking about SERIOUS traffic. Do you guys find stick in serious traffic too annoying? thnx.

Trade it in

Stick isnt that much of a problem during traffic...Those people that complain seem like such whiners to me....man up and learn to drive so that you're not shifting so much....

Driving around hills may be a bitch, but if you only have to do it once and while then I see no problem in it as well, unless you live in san francisco then i say get manual

hills are very serious here.

So that's bumper to bumper + hills, as in traffic ON hills. Most red lights stop on hills.

That would be somewhat of a bitch then....especially if you're saying its bumper to bumper on hills...even using the e-brake would be tiresome....in that case....Get a motorcycle!....**** traffic....just white line it through

well i'm moving back to florida in august, and was thinking of trading in then. How much do you think the car will depreciate by then? and any idea with 2006 type-s will come out?

I got my 05 on the 13th of September, and I know it had come out just a couple of weeks before I bought it. So it had to be at the beginning of September

what i meant was that u should not use downshift as a means of coming to a stop thinking that you'll put less wear on the brake pads.

"oh there's the red light. blip downshift revs to 5grand, slowingslowing, blip downshift again revs to 5grand"

like that hehe

Well, in traffic I downshift alot...If I see the traffic coming to a hault, then i downshift in order to slow down without using the brakes....It's all second nature..I"ve been driving stick since I got my license and I really dont think about it anymore and I've never had any transmission issues....

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by krystar &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">what i meant was that u should not use downshift as a means of coming to a stop thinking that you'll put less wear on the brake pads.

Even when im coming to a light..I downshift but I dont go as high as 5,000rpm when coming to a stop...I downshift and match revs to a lower RPM than that til eventually i reach 2nd gear and pop it in neutral....When i'm coming into a turn i dont brake most of the time....I enter at a steady speed, downshifting if i think my rpms are too low and if i'm coming too fast...then exit the turn accelerating.....
