Brake caliper questions for H3
I've read the rules numerous times, and just cannot desipher them. Here is the rule:
g) Brake rotors and/or drums must be the same type, material, and dimensions as OEM. Brake rotors and/or drums from alternate companies may be used. Brake rotors and/or drums may be cryogenically treated.
I *think* what this is saying is that you can have cross drilled/slotted rotors. Am I correct? What about calipers? The car i'm buying has the spoon calipers on the front. The rule doesn't say anything about calipers, so i'm assuming that they are not allowed? Thanks for any help.

?!?
Are you sure about that Phil? Anything but OEM calipers are most definately not allowed, but I thought that cross drilled or slotted rotors are fine. I wouldn't use them personally because I don't think they do a lot for you, and are much more prone to warping or cracking, but....

this doesn't leave a lot to the imagination...
if the oem rotors are slotted or cross drilled type, then it should be fine. otherwise no

I guess I was reading too deep into it. A drilled/slotted rotor is the same dimensions as a non-drilled as long as its the same size. It is also made of the same material. I guess I was wondering what "Type" is refering to. Would "type" be non-slotted/non-drilled?
I am reading the rules "the same type" as being stock, not cross drilled or slotted which I read as, not the same. I could be wrong......although, type could reference to steel versus carbon etc........although, that is covered under material. I don't see type referring to anything else, but again I could be wrong............
In my opinion, slotted would be helpful and not be prone to warping and cracking, anymore than a stock type rotor....ahhhh see I used the reference "stock type" without trying............. it must mean something...........

The way I interpret the rules is that slotted and/or cross drilling would not be allowed (not that they would be a benefit anyways), but that's how I interpret since they are not specifically outlined.
The Spoon calipers are not allowed. Four piston compared to Single.

I think the intent (though the rules may be writen poorly) was that you use the same material and design. Therefore the street cars in H2-H5 used cast iron rotors that were one piece and solid (no gas vanes, slotting, cross drilled etc....).
Rules aren't always writen properly to match their intent. H2-H5 rules were meant to be the same as IT in SCCA. Stock rotors !
Sometimes rules aren't writen well or omitted.
Last season there was no update on tire rules. In fact there was no mention made at all about tires other than width for certain classes.
Therefore one could surmize:
1) Any tire is legal (I thought about showing up with Good Year slicks)
2) Anyone not running the 03 spec tire (Toyo) would be in violation
Rules aren't always writen to match intent.

Jon
