Default Automatic Trans Park/gear ?

I have the front of my 97 EX with auto trans blocked up for a timing belt change and brake work and discovered that the front wheels will spin. Should'nt they be locked in Park gear or does the fact that they are off the ground make a difference some how ? I would'nt think so...

Putting it in park locks the transmission. So once you take the load off the wheels they are free spinning.
