NASA @ Willow Springs Feb. 12-13
Who's going, I'm sure a lot of you are, but this will be my first time at that track, coming out with some of the NASA-AZ crew...hoping to match some faces with the names...I'm bring out my daily driver, so i'll prolly just putt around.

I'll be driving my black GSR, probably start in HPDE 2, but I"m normally in HPDE 3. Just want to learn the track and I'm sure i'll be out playing with the rest of you guys. My car is mostly stock aside from the fact that I'll be running on R-compounds. Has suspension and all that fun stuff. I have a CRX too, but it's getting ready to go under the knife and lose it's lovely B16 in favor of the almighty H4 legal D16A6. I'll be probably showing up with a rather LARGE rig, so I"m sure you won't be able to miss me, I'll be the only Acura camped with a bunch of cars that cost 3 times as much

Justin,
Just keep your eyes up on Turn 9, going into the main straight. There's not a whole lot of landmarks out there to figure your turn in point, and the outside of the track will come up fast and bite you if you come in too hot. I know, cuz it did to me last time I was there in my LS. It's the only corner that still scares me. Other than that, it's a great track, lots of high speed stuff, and no walls to spin into like PIR, unless you drift out too far on t9 and smack the pit wall, but that's rare.
I may have to swap cars with my bro-in-law in Phoenix this weekend, cuz I might be picking up the mighty F-250 diesel monster today. If I don't go to AZ, I'll cruise out to WS on Sunday and take pictures.

About 2 weekends ago with Speedventures on T9:

I was there on Sat and this happened on Sun. The car was fully race prepped and it appears the driver was OK after the crash. apparently he went 2 wheels off and tried to bring it back. I guess the advice is if you go off you stay off and rally through the dirt until you meet the pavement again at pit entrance. I'm sure it'd be really hard to not just 'react' when something like that happens. It's a hairy turn.
Here is a thread on it:

From: South LA...107th and fig to be exact...for the foo
so what is everyone planning on running??? H1 or HU, i have the option to run either class since i have two motors ready to go.... but i wanna run in the class with the most cars in it, i dont want to run a class that only has two competitors in it, its pointless....ur info is needed to make in my decision
The back hung out on my Integra, and I caught it twice, but the third time it got away from me. Hit the dirt sliding sideways at about 80mph. Damn good luck that I didn't roll it. I was pissed, too, cuz the last thing I wanted to do that weekend was fill the car full of dust and dirt....well, the last thing I wanted was to roll it, and I was fortunate.
I've seen it before on videos, and I think the best thing to do in that turn, if you run too wide, is just drive through it on the dirt, and ease back onto the track. I was desperately trying to keep it on track, and fighting where the car wanted to go. It was a good lesson for me, and fortunately, cleaning the dust out of the car was a small price to pay for what could have been a costly accident.

I've talked to my friends that have run that track before, and I think the way to take that corner, is find a spot where you can brake in a straight line. I'll go slow at first, to learn where to start my approach, probably pick an landmark or something, move to the inside, straighten out, brake and then make the next sharp left....**** this is gonna kick so much ***...
I was planning on going for HPDE2, but I got really sick this week and I don't feel that I'll be up to par by Saturday. I know for damn sure I wouldn't want someone on track with me who felt the way I do now!!
Oh well, it'll give me some more time to prep the car and such. I'll most likely make it to the Cali Speedway event tho.

****, all week I've been looking at the weather and it was supposed to be nice...well now it looks like it's gonna rain all weekend...dammit.

Yes there will...however I'm still worried about driving my OWN car on the track. I have r-compounds, still have grooves, but not full tread.
Doesn't matter, rain is rain, and on that track it doesn't matter what you have. They dont' call it the fastest track in the west for nothing!
