my welder sucks. today i decided its time for a new one
well like anything when your about to make a several thousand dollar purchace...you have questions. so...here goes
ive been talking to several people, and unfortunatly ive never used another welder other than the one i have, lincoln squarewave 175. so...im not completely familiar with a lot of the differnt features on the some of the machines. going to check into that stuff some more this week.
as of lately ive been getting busier with fabrication stuff...primiarily stainless..however i do a lot of aluminum intercooler piping, and aluminum brackets....1/4 and possibly some 1/2 inch stuff. i dont see myself going any thicker than that.
i have never heard a single complaint about miller (other than price) so i think i have sort of narrowed down my choices to the miller 250 or 350? can you go overboard with a welder? obviously with a car you dont want to run 1000cc injectors in a 150 horsepower all motor car....is it the same with a welder? last thing i want to do is buy a welder and want to upgrade again in a year. is there any big advantages to the 350 over the 250, other than amperage?? im going to do a lot more research now that i have decided for sure im buying something SOON...so hopefully i can asnwer some of my own questions, just figured i'd post here to see if anybody has any words of wisdom or first had experiances etc etc.
also.....i have a hard time spending a lot of money on something used.....is it better to stick to something new?
thanks for any input!

The only significant advantage of the 350 ofer the 250 is the 100 extra amps.
You may want to consider a used machine...especially if it's a good quality machine. I bought an older Syncrowave 350 for $1500, with cooler, torch and cart... compare that to what you got your new PT for... and I think you will see the difference you can make if you shop around and buy used.
Of course there's nothing wrong with a new machine, but you can save quite a bit if you buy used.
