i have an 98 accord 4dr lx. dose any one know if i can install a daytime running light kit from honda or after market?

I believe there's a relay & a resistor pack. Details are in the Helm book wiring drawings, just look for USA vs Canada differences to see what extra stuff you need.

 

Why would you want them? Just curious.

I was wondering the same thing. I always forget that US models don't have them.

 

Save a little on insurance maybe? Or are you the type that always forgets to turn on their headlights at night (my friend)

Well the DRL's aren't designed for night use..hence the daytime..

 

maybe im an idiot...but dont USDM cars do have DRL....they just arent automatic....IE, on the light control, one click turns on corners and rears, two clicks turns on lows, etc......

 

Well correct and incorrect. The first click turns on the parking lights and in some cases the fog lights as well. The second click turns the headlights on (low/high beam).

On accords the DRL's run on the high beam lights, just at a lower setting. They come on when you turn the car on and go off when you turn the car off or turn the headlights on. There is no user interface for them.

 

For the most part, cars that use the headlights as DRL use the highbeam at 80% of their brightness. GM likes to use really bright parking type lights. Also with DRL's the parking lights (front and rear) are not on. And with the DRL's when it gets dark most of them will switch over to the normal lights (low beam) and the parking lights automatically.

 

Didn't the Canadian Accords have daytime running lights? If so, there's got to be a simple fix to change a US Accord to have them.

Then again, I might be thinking about a different type of car...

 

Yes, Canadian Accords do come with daytime running lights.

When I moved back to Canada with my USDM Civic I had to add daytime running lights to it. I believe the kit from Honda ran around $200-300 CDN. Rather than do that I just rewired the fog lights so they would come on just like DRL's.

 

its funny how I hear of soo many people that wants daytime running lights and i wanna take mine off

DRL's are for safety - makes it easy to be seen evenb in daylight.

 

yea i know but i find they dont do much in the daylight i would prefer having to turn them on myself

 

At first they were for saftey, and I remember when they first starting showing up on cars you thought look at that idiot with their lights on, so it looked out of place and we took notice. (used to be that just motorcycles had their lights on to give them an advantage so you could see them before you ran them down changing lanes) but now there are so many cars with it, nobody notices it, and motorcycles have lost their chance of being seen instead of run over. THey are a sad excuse for a saftey device. I'll keep control over my own headlights and I'm glad Honda agrees. So far anyhow.

 

DRLs were not designed to make the car more visible than the next... They were made to make the car more noticable in general.

 

well .. can some 1 just point me in the right direction on how to do it?
