I've done searches and see that there's people with Tein S Tech springs on stock shocks that haven't had problems. That's tempting because it will only cost about $150. Then there's people that say get good springs like Eibach and KYB or Koni shocks which will cost over $500. I don't plan on racing or anything I just want my car to look better so should I go with Tein or the more costly route? Also, do I have to go over curbs sideways with that much of a drop and will my 17's fit?

 

Id go the more expensive route... Itd ride better, and feel better. and handle better

 

i've gone both ways, you'er gonna get a lot stiffer ride out of the expensive springs. but if you want dumped and now, go the cheap route with no name coilovers and cut cups.

 

I say get coils spend more but at least u can adjust later on.

 

I cheaped out and went withe Ground Control Coils and stock shocks. It cost 300. The shocks busted in no time and i've been like this for 2 years now. I've had no problems except it bounces, hopefully i'll be getting a job soon and can upgrade to some Omni's. Im not sure but to me it feels like it bounces less the lower you have the car. I had my coils half way down and it seemed to bounce alot more than now I have it almost all the way down. This again could just be in my head.

 

if u just want the look just go cheap. If u really dont plan to race or dont like (or care for that matter) the feel of a sporty suspension then go cheap. Dont waste $$ on racing stuff if u not going to race. simple

 

If you're just about the look, then get some decent springs now, and then you can upgrade the shocks later on. I've been using my Neuspeed Sport springs with the stock shocks for about 6 months now with no problems. I'm graduating college this summer and once I get a job I'll upgrade my shocks, among other things. If you're not racing or anything then this route will be fine for you.

 

What do you mean when not racing?
Im interested in lowering too, but will it improve handling? or is taht ALL in the shocks? I have stock tires and everytime i get new ones i ride the nubs off the side my first corner, i also want a bit less body roll.. is this all suspension that needs be done?

 

Eibach springs cost $500? You can get good used Sportlines for about $100 on here.

 

a crappy suspension is the biggest nuisance of ride quality.

~$500 for Eibach springs and new shocks. I've never driven a sports car so I don't know how they handle. I've had 2 K5 Blazers with leaf springs and the ride was very stiff and I don't want that. A mix between performance and ride comfort would be nice. My Civic is a 96 with 120k mi and I don't know if the shocks are the originals, if they are will they last much longer?

if they are the stock shocks and they do have 120k mi on them, then they wont last long with lower spings. depending on what springs you get will depend how much it helps your handling. if you buy springs with a higher spring rate, you will get a much stiffer ride, but you will have a little better handling. if you want a mix between performance and good ride quality, i would get some springs and good quality shocks.

 

um go the expensive thing and get the omni setup its only like 500 bux for coilovers. i would do that becuase it will make you more happy when you relize that your car looks good for longer

its 650... but yeah, Id just get something good now and be happy for a long time instead of getting something just alright, and then if something went wrong itd always be in the back of your mind that you had the chance to get something really nice, but decided not to just to save a little money. its better to do it right the first time.

 

that was my problem at the start, but now i see how it goes, also if you can save like 800 total they have a combo pack that lets you get the rear lower controle arms for cheap

 

whatever u do dont cut the springz .
i got a 94 red coupe i bout plain tenzo-r springz and the ride better than coilovers and its a stiff ride with no bounce affordable and it looks nice ...and i had 2 pairs of 17"s on there and they fit no problem tucked

 

Whatever you do, make sure to spend the extra $$$ and get a camber kit!

 

for smooth or softer ride. Neuspeed sports with Tokico Illumnas or KYB AGX will ride smooth Id prefer Illumnas. Set em on 1 and you will have a smooth ride and set it them on 5 and its a lil stiffer.

I have to get a camber kit for a 1.6-1.8" drop?

 

Get the TEIN S Tech springs with a set of KYB AGX, Koni Yellow, or Bilstein shocks

 

Not to sound too ghetto or anything, but if your not racing and just want to lower your car, cut the stock springs about 3 inches (will lower your car about and inch and a half) and it's free. Did it to ahtach and it rides perfectly. I know somebody's gonna flame but in advance F.U. it works and no money is envolved just a little bit of time (45 min).

Honestly the best way to do it is as staed above though, get you some sportlines from Eibach or some cheap coilovers off Ebay, I only say this cause it sounds like ayour on a budget and not too concerned about performance
