is honing done when the block is assembled or is it better if it's not assembled?

You can't do it when it's assebled. The block HAS to be bare.

Not a clue. But it will cost you a bit. You need to find a machine shop that has the equipment and knowledge about doing it. Cause if they **** up, your block is trash. Call around, and if you find a place that doesnt do it ask if they could recommend you to another shop that does. Look for a good price and when you find one let me know.

If you're going to go so far as to strip the block and hone, you might want to consider a sleeve/bore/hone job. There's Golden Eagle, JG, AEM, etc. I think average price is starting at $1000 going up to Lord knows what. I'm going to be doing the same thing as soon as I find a buildable core.
