Integra owner in need of help from PRELUDE owners
ok i don't know much about older hondas and i don't have a book for it. Heres the deal. its a 87 prelude 2.0 si, now the problem is sometimes it won't start. Also when driving, the PGMFI light comes on. Now i didn't see a check engine light on this car. Now we have fuel, i checked for spark and got a good spark on each cylinder. Then i took the intake tube off at the throttle body and fliped the throttle plate and shined a light inside and i saw fuel all over the number 3 runner.
I'm thinking its either a injector, map sensor(if it has one) or 02 sensor?
So is there anyway to read the code like i can on my integra with the service connector?
Is there a check engine light?
also any suggestions as what to try next. I'm thinking fuel filter, but how do i check to see if that works without taking it out. can i pull the fuel line off at the rail or not?
any help is appreciatted. thanks.

Just undo the line from the fuel filter to the fuel rail. If you don't get any fuel pressure make sure that the fuel pump is running.
does it not start when the car has been running for a while? it sounds like your pgmfi main relay is bad. i have had to replace it in my crx and my prelude. they both had a hard time starting after the car was warmed up, but not all the time. after replacing the relays in both cars i have not had a problem since.
i am not 100% sure, but if you look at your main fuse box under the dash on the driver's side, you should see the main relay attached to the side of it. it will actually say main relay on it. there should be a bunch of fat wires going into the clip that plugs into it. remove that relay and replace it with a new one. try that and see if that helps.
good luck

ok thanks for the help guys. yeah it does it when the car is warm. So i'm going to check out that relay. did your PGMFI light come on after a bit of driving. and sometimes not come on at all. and i'm sure its getting fuel cuz i smell it and see it in the number 3 runner only. thanks again.

one more thing. where did you get the relay at. no auto store around here has it, i didn't try the dealer yet. also how much did you get it for. thanks.

i actually had a parts car for both vehicles sitting around, so i didn't have to "buy one". if you go to the dealer you shouldn't be looking at too much money. i wouldn't think it would be more than 20 bucks. even from the dealer. i would have to call, but i get a pretty good discount at the dealer, so i don't know actual cost. sorry.
