Default Open Vacuum ports Okay?

I was working on my turbo install and i came across my cruise control and realized i havent used it since i bought the car. I took it out and unooked the hose going to the Intake manifold. It looks like a vacuum line, and i was wondering if this will screw up the way everything runs when i fire it back up? do i need to plug it because its vacuum?

TIA

yes, cap it. When you leave a vacuum port open, the engine can suck more air than it should be able to with the throttle butterfly at 0% throttle.....therefore it idles higher....

when it gets to the point that you are getting a lot more air than it should be getting the IAC freaks out and puts the engine into bouncy idle mode.....

so yes, cap it....

besides, since you will be BoOsTinG (check the avatar), you definitely should cap it, because you will leak all of your precious boost out through it.....

That's what I'm thinking... You want to hook up a turbo setup and you don't know basic engine stuff or where to get simple parts?? Good luck.

Any auto parts store has those vacuum caps.

hey man ive worked on turbo'd cars, not turbo'd a car. Besides, i know a guy who ran without these plugged for awhile and was fine, i was wondering what would be optimal--plugs or caps. Just wanted some help, not a freakin scolding for being unworthy to have your holy eyes view my query, sorry.

On a side note, why can't i just use these for my wastegate and boost gauge? Two problems solved, as far as I see it.

from what i know about turbos....wastegate is for excess exhaust gasses so u wont be letting any exhaust out of your IM, if blow-off valve is what you are thinking of, it is designed to relieve excess boost out of between the turbo and the TB, so having the bov after the tb will not help, as for the boost gauge, with the TB closed you will not know if you have any boost at idle as the plate is closed

basically it seems like everyone here will tell u the same, spend a month, research, and then try your build, otherwise in a month u will just be back here wondering why your engine is busted when u ran forged pistons in the stock block and etc....

OMG, a wastegate is a means of controlling the amount of boost you make by letting a certain amount of exhaust gasses bypass the turbo completely. It has ZERO to do with the intake manifold....

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> if blow-off valve is what you are thinking of, it is designed to relieve excess boost out of between the turbo and the TB, so having the bov after the tb will not help, </TD></TR></TABLE>

He is not saying he wants to put the BOV after the TB, that would be pretty much impossible. He just wants to know if he can get a vacuum source from there, which he can.

The BOV's sole purpose is to prevent damage to the compressor from the throttle plate closing and stopping the flow suddenly.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">as for the boost gauge, with the TB closed you will not know if you have any boost at idle as the plate is closed</TD></TR></TABLE>

You don't make boost at idle unless you have a microscopic turbo that spools at 500 rpms.

im putting this with low low boost (.4bar) on my stock h22. Ive got a second block im building in the next few months thatll be ready to drop in then, and up the boost. This way i can ease my way into the feel of the car slowly, and be safely boosted.

I did however get a microscopic turbo. It was a bitch getting it in. I had to clock it with a pair of tweezers......... but turbo lag will be nonexistant!
