Kumho MX vs Azenis Pressure
Is anyone who has run both the MX and the Azenis willing to share tire pressure info? I've been running the Azenis for two years now and I'm trying out the Kumho's at a test and tune tomorrow. I'm not looking for exact Kumho pressures, I'm more interested in how similar or different the pressures were between the two brands. I know what pressure the Azenis like on my car, I'm just trying to figure out a starting point with the Kumho's. TIA!
Yeah, I'm in the high range with the Azenis (44/32 f/r). I started lower in the front but the car just kept pushing until I went to the higher pressure. I kind of thought I would start in the same range but just wanted to get some more input.
scott, i've used both. i ran similar pressures as you do. one thing about the kumho's is that they respond better to pressure change then azenis do.
fwiw, unless these tires have been heat cycled/scrubbed pretty hard the first event will pretty much be a wash. the tire does respond a little slower in transitions and overall has a different feel. i still like it though.

Well the test and tune went pretty well today. We started at 44/32 f/r since that is what we run with the Azenis. First session was pretty short because we spent part of it installing the HF front bar, but my codriver and I each got two runs. For the afternoon we decided to drop the front pressure to 40 to see what the difference would be. After two runs it was pretty obvious the car was pushing so we went back up to 44 and were pretty happy with the change.
Nate- It will be interesting to see if the tires feel any different tomorrow at the autocross. The MX's were shaved, does that cut down on the break in time or do they always get a little better after the first event? Do you think 18 hours will be enough time for them to "cure?" Guess we'll see in the morning. Thanks to everyone for the advice!

That's almost the exact same pressures I was running at the track. They didn't really seem to like the high pressure, and I kept lowering it and they kept feeling better and better.
Most people run them closer to 40, but I didn't have a problem. Then again, I do have ample negative camber, so I don't need to rely on high pressures to keep the tire from rolling over.

with two drivers they should be pretty well broken in after one day, assuming you can get them pretty hot. shaved or not doesn't matter. mine came in during the second day of a two day autocross weekend with only me driving. pretty much stabilized after that. good luck!

Car was a lot better than the driver this weekend, everything mechanical seemed to work great. We set the cold pressures at 44/32 and just bled them after each run like normal. We ran two drivers in the same heat and were getting a run about every 5 minutes or so and the tires were very consistent after the first run or two. I really like the fact that if I overdrive the tires they don't fall off like the Azenis. The only thing I don't like about running the Kumho's is I'm back to changing wheels at every event like I used to do in H-stock. Oh well, guess that's the price you pay...
There are two schools of thought on rear pressures. To get the rear to rotate you can either go higher than optimal or lower. I used to run higher but it made the transition from grip to slip very abrupt. By going the low pressure route the rear of the car feels more predictable. Both methods seem to work, it really just comes down to preference.

Glad to see. But what do you meen by "changing wheels at every event"?

Since the MX's don't work well at full tread depth we had them shaved to 4/32's. I still daily drive my STS car and they just won't last very long starting out that shallow. With the Azenis we could get around 200 runs and 6 months on the street out of a set, with the MX we're hoping for about the same number of runs but we won't put any street miles on them. Either way it's still cheaper than R- compound tires!
